At any rate, the beautiful facade has been saved. That may be a parking deck, but if it is it's to scale with the surrounding midrises and has the same look for cohesion. If it IS a parking deck, I'll take it - at least it looks like it belongs.

The tower is sleek and very nice, imo. Way better than the rough sketches we've seen to date.

I actually love this proposal, and it's taller than I imagined from earlier renderings. Looks like 33 - 34 floors, and very un-academia in appearance.
I was big on saving Crum & Forster but I think this compromise is reasonable. I live near there and the area gets sketchy at that point and further south. Much needed development.

Wish they could deal with that monstrosity of a deck to the south (currently a filming site for Fast and Furious 7).

This is probably just hearsay. In any case the only figure that counts is profit per store.

Well its either a piece of the VAX or the monolith from 2001 Space Odyssey.

I like that is modern rather than the forced contextual/pastiche......but I wouldn't mind a bit more articulation at the top and better integration with the parking deck

It has to be, or Sprouts wouldn't be gearing up to blanket the metro with 30+ stores.

AC Hotel By Marriott eyes Phipps Plaza

Simon Property Group is considering building an AC Hotel By Marriott next to Phipps Plaza, according to a hospitality insider. It would be the first in Atlanta and one of the first in the United States.

Atlanta Business Chronicle in August reported Simon (NYSE: SGP) wants to build a hotel on roughly 1.7 acres it owns at Peachtree and Wieuca roads in Buckhead, near the Nordstrom department store.

AC Hotels by Marriott is a contemporary brand founded in 1998. It has its largest concentration of hotels in Spain, Italy, France and Portugal.

“This brand targets travelers searching for a design-led hotel in a great location,” Marriott said in a marketing brochure for the brand. “Sleek, sophisticated European-inspired aesthetics bring the culture of the location alive to support our guests’ experience.”

Amenities include a bar, lounge, library and exercise room. Typical hotels are five floors with about 130 rooms.

Could this just be a place card drawing? I hate the way it relates to the base so I hope so. Kind of bland skin too. Although it does remind me of 1280 Peachtree, which I love, so...

Lenox Mall Renovation - Step Forward (or) Backwards?

Maybe it is premature to state an opinion, but I think the Lenox Mall renovation is a disconnected architectural mess. You have an ultra modern Nike store front and center that is going to be connected to a Cheesecake Factory that has venetian plaster with a decorative swirl pattern, copper finished accents, marble mosaics, black granite banding and black canvas awnings. Book-ended on the opposite side by a simplistic Sprinkles Cupcake store. Most offensive in my opinion is the generic white marble marque/entrance. Was this really supposed to be Simon Properties answer to competition coming from Oliver Mcmillan's Buckhead Atlanta development?

I've heard the same thing. TJ is only satisfied with their Buckhead and Midtown locations. Suburban stores are meh. They wont be expanding here anytime soon.

I don't think the original corners were on the same style either. But I don't think the styles have to be the same to look great. In NYC, buildings have all different styles and are touching each other and it looks awesome. The way Lenox is turning out, I think it looks great.

No offense intended at all, Buck. I'm just not trusting your sources numbers.

The Midtown, Buckhead & Sandy Springs stores have always been beyond slammed every single time I've been in them.

On the other hand, I've been in multiple stores around L.A. that were busy, but nothing even approaching what I see here.

Thus, a major and direct competitor such as Sprouts sees the potential for a massive expansion here.

Trader Joe's is owned by Aldi now. Maybe the Germans aren't getting accurate info as to market dynamics? Stranger things have happened...

@Atlanta3000

i don't like the new façade much, the previous façade was much more inviting, plus you had the huge portico for valet parking and whatnot. that being said, it looks like the new design was built to allow stores to have maximum frontage and maximum creativity with their storefronts, and minimalize the actual mall entrance. economically, it makes sense, but aesthetically i do agree, it's disappointing. that being said, the older design wasn't *great* with all the stucco— it was just better.

I'm glad something is finally going up in the gap between One Atlantic Center and the Bank of America Plaza.

Look great, kind of short though, any details? Or is this just another pipe dream from Allen Plaza, which has been very disappointing.

Where did you get those renderings for 50 Allen Plaza? There is nothing on Regent Partners website about the project, other than that they own the land, but this rendering is different from previous renders on 50 Allen Plaza so obviously someone was paying someone to do some work.

I would love for this area to take off. There's three vacant blocks (including 50 Allen Plaza) in that area that, if developed, could alter the neighborhood dramatically (not to mention other space in the area).

I know Post Properties was on board in building a large apartment complex before the recession, so if they could get Post back on board or someone else to develop some residential in the area, that'd be awesome.

Idk where they got it, but I was able to find it here. Not sure if it's just a concept done by someone for the site or if this is something legit.

Edit: It appears to be designed by HKS? So it could be an actual proposal?

Eh, an entry and categorized as unbuilt design. Looks like they submitted it for a competition or such. They might have done it simply for the competition or done up a rendering for Regent Partners / their marketing team to show prospective tenants to see if getting something built on the site was feasible. My assumption is that considering this was posted into a competition the design is older and beyond being used. If it was actually under consideration by a developer, I doubt they'd be letting the architect submit it wherever.
