St. Regis Site

Are the “Another Project by Rockport Group” signs new on the St. Regis site?

Their website links to a black page reading "something cool is coming"

Not just any website, mind you. The website of a downtown Winnipeg empty lot development. That's basically the word of god, right there.

"Another Project"...

Don't you need a first project before you can have another project?

They have been/are building about $100m of projects out in Island Lakes - Bonavista on the Lake.

Bella Vista is complete already I believe.

It is not 40 storey high-rises, but they do have some kind of track record.

If you look up rockportgroup.net you will see their website with a number of "purdy pitchurs" of developments they are working on. There actually seems to be a little more information on their facebook page Rockport Group. It looks like they have done some residential high-rises in Toronto/the GTA, and some of their buildings look quite nice.

Is that the same Rockport Group, though?

Good question, I just assumed, but then again how many developers called Rockport Group can there be?

They have built one residential building. To be honest I’d be fine if this is what they build there.

You would think their website would allude to some of these previous projects...

I'm confused, is this that monolith parkade with a building on top or is that a different site?

I'd certainly prefer the monolith to the suburban style lowrise building pictured above...

Push it up against the sidewalk and add commercial along the ground floor and I’d take it.

Are you trying to manage our expectations?

Seriously, the suburban thing reminds me of the bad old days in the 90s and early 00s when nothing was getting built in prairie downtowns, except Calgary. In particular, I remember the excitement in Edmonton when suburban stuff like this would go up downtown... now it just seems kind of lame.
