Thank you for posting a "before" picture from just the right angle as the "after" picture. It's that type of beyond-the-call-of-duty contribution that makes this forum so informative and interesting.

I"m happy to see that the General Automotive Building is finally moving forward since it's been discussed for about a year now. Several architects looked at moving their offices there.

I"m not so happy about the new design. The addition seems way out of scale with the existing building. I know people like to save the old architectural fabric although if these projects won't pencil without this kind of density I"m not sure it's worth saving the older buildings. I appreciate the architect's attempt to create something new and contemporary and distinct from the historical fabric. I think the scale is just goofy. There might not be a solution to this Program that wouldn't be goofy.

I like it. Things like balconies in new office buildings and bigger windows, like this renovation will offer, especially on the park, will make it great space to work in.

I like the construction of Deschutes. I think it makes it feel like a hunting lodge or something of that sort. What more would you have liked to see? Do you have a problem with how the tables are arranged? I can understand that argument.

I guess what bugs me is that there area so many freaking ideas happening that it's difficult to get a feel for the place. i liked the idea of the wood carvings when I first heard about them, but I think they ended up being rather sloppy. Second, I hate how one must traverse the kitchen to get to the bathrooms. Third, because of the mirrors in the bathroom area, I know I'm not the only one who ends up opening the door to the broom closet instead of the mens room almost every time I visit. I guess I just don't understand what they're really going for. It feels disjointed and clumsy.

As for the food, it's not terrible. I had some pretty terrible buffalo wings there, but the ribs were kinda good. I haven't tried the pizza. For brew pub food, I guess it's pretty good, but why go there with Clyde Common in the neighborhood. Plus, pitchers of beer are like 14 bucks!

I got a burger or something...can't remember so it must have been so-so

My wife got a pizza with tomato sauce on the side. It was amazing. I have not tried apizza scholls or ken's artisan but i've heard great things about those as well.

I didn't get the feeling that it was too corporate. It's only their 2nd restaurant isn't it??

The bathroom comment reminds me..... They might have the sweetest urinals ever (and bridgeport, I think it is). They are Shaq size. And the sink is kinda cool too.

We stopped at the Deschutes brew pub on our visit. The beer was good, the food was not. Both were expensive (but I was expecting that) The outdoor seating was the best part.

Developer proposes time-share in the Pearl District

A Minneapolis-based developer has proposed building a six-story time-share facility with 115 units in the Pearl District.

Opus Northwest, which also has a Portland office, wants to build the project on the north side of Northwest Irving Street between 14th and 15th avenues, according to the Portland Bureau of Development Services.

Opus Northwest is under contract to buy the site, which is currently a surface parking lot. Opus Northwest is developing the project for Wyndam Worldwide, which offers time-shares around the country, as well as Australia, the Caribbean and the Pacific Islands.

Mark Desbrow, real estate manager for Opus Northwest, said today that he hopes to break ground in April or May and complete construction by August 2010.

Rode by it yesterday. Truly hideous. I sat there for a bit trying to imagine something worse, but I think they beat me to it.
