Edit: The upper concourse must not have been open for sale. I looked again and there are lots of tickets available up top.

Does anyone know what the capacity is for the Stingers basketball team in the new CEBL at the Expo centre? I was checking out tickets on Ticketmaster and was surprised at how many are already sold for the first couple home games. The first game next Friday looks to be nearly sold out and the second game on the 24th is not far behind. Considering how little I've heard of the team/league, I'm surprised there'd be so much demand.

Ian,

I am pleased to share we will be officially introducing Ken Holland as the new General Manager and President of Hockey Operations of the Edmonton Oilers in just a few minutes. Ken’s experience as a hockey executive and his success as an NHL General Manager set him apart from everyone else identified in our search for this key leadership role. His arrival marks an important step towards delivering the success we all expect on the ice. Ken will have my full support and will receive complete autonomy on all aspects of Oilers hockey operations.

Our news conference to introduce Ken will be broadcast live on EdmontonOilers.com, Sportsnet, 630 CHED and Global News 880 beginning at 10:00 AM MT today.

Thank you again for your commitment to Oilers hockey.

Sincerely,

Bob Nicholson signature

Looks like a copy/paste from the last few GM announcements the Oilers have made.

Hey Katz, stop talking about the god damn arena and district. we don't care. You tenure as owner is one of the WORST in the history of professional sports....we want you to put in place the pieces for a winning team....not build some stupid buildings.

You have failed. Your ego is more driven by some real estate dick measuring contest than winning. You want pictures of shiny buildings in your office....successful owners want pictures of shiny trophies.

If you spent the last dozen years focusing on building a winning team rather than building buildings I would probably still share season tickets.

He's also been focusing on his health.

Read John Shannon's tweets on Twitter. Katz has a very life threatening disease he is fighting.

I have a feeling his focus has been elsewhere a lot over the past three years...

^^OK relax... He's hired competent (or who should have been competent) people to run the hockey portion of his businesses.

He is a businessman after all and a portion of his businesses is real estate. So what if he wants to pump his tires a little, what he's done for Edmonton in the regard has been amazing actually so I don't mind at all.

I'd trade the new barn and everything around it for a team that has been somewhat competent for the last decade or so.

Very true, and very unappreciated by many.

So great citizen, but shitty owner.

I assume the info is available on line somewhere...but compare is teams performance under his ownership to other owners. He’s in the bottom few percent if not the very bottom.

They are having a Toronto Raptors viewing party at the Expo Centre. This should be akin to our version of Jurassic Park. Thing is, we could have already had our version of Jurassic Park at ICE District or Churchill Square but both are under construction. File that under "Missed Opportunities".

Seriously?

File that under, under-construction. Once completed, both will be great venues to host things such as this... or perhaps an Oilers playoff party.

File it not being at the Fed Building Plaza as a missed opportunity.

Eskimos concerned about attendance, offering GA for $22-25 all in, but in the end zone stands and free for U17 through the Calgary Labour Day rematch.

The Eskimos have been a management train wreck for the last 15 years. mediocre performance, terrible (even cringeworthy at times) gimmicks, wacky decisions, high turnover in management/coaching. Our family has had season tickets for 20 some years...its not as fun as it used to be....

I've been airport custom patted down prior to 2 games this year. hard to keep beer prices down when you have the onsite security costs of a small country.

What do you expect from an organization that installed rider green seats.

This article is about NFL, but I think it loosely applies to CFL as well. It's hard to get excited about a game where you spend much more time watching players walk on and off the field than an actual sport being played. Article claims that an average NFL game has 11 minutes of actual play time.

So the ol' lady gets a text last night from this Mucky Muck top level executive with the largest Media company in Canada. We met him a few years ago in Vegas sitting at a bar....anyway - this guy happens to be a "very close friend with the McDavids." They just so happened to be sitting together at the time - somewhere in ON, Connor and this "guy." Connor tells this guy to tell my wife - "out there in Edmonton," that he is "very excited, in fact the most excited he's been in looking forward to a season with the Oil." Hmmm....maybe something we don't know?

Probably just super stoked to play a full season without Chiarelli overlooking things.
