I don't see the skyline as a table top skyline at all to be honest. It has a nice balance to it IMO.
Don't forget that's only the eastern half of the skyline, the western half is even more diverse.

It's starting down that road, but yeah there is a way to go yet.

Hearing a lot of rumours Telus Sky may get capped, so at least it won't contribute to a tabletop?

As nice as the increasing density of Downtown Toronto is, there really needs to be more unique, distinctive buildings being added to the skyline. From the traditional lake view, with the Financial District increasingly being shrouded, it is starting to look like skyline of the CN Tower and a bunch of light blue glass boxes. This is less of an issue with east, west, and south viewing angles, admittedly (for now).

Say what you will about PoMo architecture, but one of the things I've come to appreciate about it was this sense of trying to return to the more ornate and varied detailings of pre-war architecture while still adhering to Corbusian standards and architecture from that era tends to feel far less generic than most of what is being built nowadays, at least large scale -- Toronto does have some great low- and mid-rise projects which animate things at street level.

They are already starting to move above grade, so I doubt it. Telus will be the anchor tenant and I don't see them backing out any time soon. Not sure who they have hired to be the developer on this and what shape they are in. The residential part is the biggest variable as I see it.

Cap could come at the top of the office component. Anyway they are just rumours I am hearing, but they are from local industry professionals, so take them for what they are worth.

Developer is Westbank and Allied REIT, both of whom are in strong financial shape, but that doesn't mean they want to incur losses needlessly.

I don't buy into the rumours of capping especially grade level.

Telus is actually hurting right now with the economy in Alberta. It doesn't help either they had to recently pay out $25 million to replace their CEO that decided to quit; the most disgusting side of corporate Canada.

I'm confused, you don't buy into the rumours of capping but then say telus is really hurting?

I think it's probably a coin toss on this building. I would assume Telus would want out of their lease obligation in the building and I think the developer would not like to build it in this market either. The City on the other hand would go bananas if they capped so that is the one force I see pushing the project along.

Why would a developer listen to the city's push for completion? If the market fundamentals aren't there, then they aren't there. Calgary gets their stump now.

They also just finished building their corporate headquarters in Vancouver a year ago. They had two very large projects on the go.

There are always rumours about buildings getting capped in a market downturn. Very few have ever come to pass.

The first structural pillars are already above ground at Telus Sky, it is most certainly not getting capped.
