You'd think there would be mention of closing Robson (or Granville) as well.
There doesn't seem to be any demolition on the west half of the building that would allow a crane to be erected on the Howe side of the building and Howe seems to be too far away to hoist the crane parts to a site on the Granville side.

What is the purpose of a crane? The roof of the building has already been built, so material can only be delivered to the roof. Surely there will be a large material hoist, or are there going to be platforms protruding from each floor to receive large payloads?

I would assume they are hoisting down through the planned atrium or along the sides for horizontal loading.

Mystery solved as to where the crane will go.

This hole in the roof just opened up today or yesterday:

Thanks for the photo.

I noticed something dismaying in the background of the photo. The Robson Square waterfalls appear to still be out of operation. For how many years have the waterfalls been turned off now? The series of cascading waterfalls are an absolutely integral part of the square's architecture and experience. The length of inoperation is now unimaginable.

Have they really been turned off for this long?

I can't recall having seen them on in a long long time - i.e. they were covered over for the Olympics - not sure if they've been on since then...

Like suspected, a crane is being erected on the roof as we speak. I will post a photo of the complete crane later.

No heavy concrete beam above what used to be a horizontal display window (compared to the Granville side)

It's a long way to the other side of the building!

It's most likely right down to the foundation, there was lots of activity in the parkade a while back. I don't see how it could function otherwise.
