The new Metro opened its doors last week. A marked improvement in format (the first 'real' metro format in the area, as opposed to the retrofits at the other locations). Finally there is a decent grocery store in a relatively central location in the lower city.

Yep I was there for the grand opening Nov18/09.

It was a zoo..... packed with shoppers like I have rarely if ever seen in Ham.

Who ever the exec. was that did the promo. for that day deserves his pay, heck even a raise. One thing was lots of free food samples, even a BBQ - free. All the suits were there and if I was the CEO I would have fired most of them for not jumping in and working as bag boys to get the customers through. I choose not to buy and put back my basket then wait 20 minutes in line. Oh ya they had flyers that gave $5 off your bill - very smart, it brought them all in.

Save and except the floral exe. she jumped in and made a sale to me for the 1st at that store of the largest bunch of fresh flowers - man it was a jungle. I then made a journey expressly delivering them, the reaction I got was worth way more than..... I heard it said that, if there were no women money would have less value. Well I gave the flowers in public in front of many other women and I got real nervous at the last minute, it was fun and funny.

They have a good ready foods section but unlike the old place, there is no place to consume your ready to eat foods = significant loss of sales -HUGE MISTAKE - for gauwd sake - why is intelligence optional? The place is also smaller than the old. There is way to much over duplication of food, hey Can. Tire and Shoppers, Zellers.+???

The Rosewood is located in the trendy historic Barton Village. Your completely renovated one and two bedroom plus condos are located next door to the new Centre Mall with a 24 hour grocery store right out side your back door!

Downpayments from $3500 with monthly payments as low as $495* month
*Based on a $70,000 unit, assuming 5% down and the monthly payment is based on a 4% interest rate and 5 year amortization

Wow... I really can't believe I just read that. Seriously, that has for a very long time been one of the worst apartment buildings in the city. Now it's being marketed like a Toronto condo.

The outside of the building STILL looks like a ghetto.

I'd give this project a break. At least it's REAL, not just a rendering of Artists Inc. or Acclamation Condo or a Hilton Hotel. *All three projects knocked down a building and never built anything*

Now it will be home to actual home owners, not skids. It'll improve the area. It's affordable home ownership for people with jobs and credit.

Rags to riches

There have been many successful conversions from apts units to condos.
I recall the Hunter Green trim apts on the north side of Charlton just shy (east) of John. Near St Joes.
The one behind the old Kelseys on Catharine between Forrest and Young. They were going for $52000 in 98/99. The one on Queen between Jackson and Hunter.
There were several in Dundas just can't recall the one that really took off, It was featured on HG TV on a conversion project. It can be done and has been.
Imagine a person starting out could establish themselves for $70000 and less a month than rent. Some equity for starting a family down the road.
This area is feasible because of this area. Wouldn't fly in downtown Dundas or Stoney Creek for the same price.
I hope this does well as it will transform the neighbourhood. With the Centre on Barton so close. Ottawa Street would have an increased density.
The downfall where will the downtrodden migrate as all to the west is growing.
Bartonville possible good fortune will be someone elses eventual problems.
Wouldn't it be odd if in 20 yrs Concession street and the North/East end reverse roles. Go LRT

They will have to employ some serious Realtor-speak to get interest in this condo, stretch the truth mighty thin for sure. I hope it doesn't backfire on them, eventualy potential buyers have to visit the property and if it doesn't measure up to the MLS description people will be pissed.

That being said everybody can look down their noses at these $70 000 condo's but they exist, they're there, you can touch them. Which is 10000x better than a $199000 condo that doesn't exist and eventualy never does exist.

Wow, I was wondering what was going on with all that renovation activity. I am extremely tempted to get one of these units. I wouldn't be surprised if they doubled in value in 5 years...

Exactly Brian.. that's what I say.... at least it's real and not just a rendering that will never happen.

hey Bornagain... I almost bought one of those "hunter green trim building' units in 98. by St Joes. I kick myself whenever I drive by it. It was like $40ish K, that's sick. THen I toured the newly converted Pigott and the units were in $50s plus an extra K for every floor up. Now they are what triple that?

I think Zaz is right. They will double. I'm going to check them out. if they have a decent 3-bedroomer I'll consider it. Considering where I'm now, that neighbourhood isn't much different.

Yep, those who are there early usually get the most rewards. They were advertising them at Ti-Cat games earlier in the fall.

These ones are a tough sell, as of the past reputation of the development, the barren-ness of the location (edge of a power centre sea of parking) and the closeness to big/heavy industry. But for those who want a place to live with affordable ownership, and the ability to build equity they could be very appealing. We need more of these types of remodels to encourage greater ownership within the lower city.

Too bad, they chose to undersize the fridge & stove in the models they show on the website. To me, proper finish is telling in overall quality of build/re-model.

Wow three bedroom for just $107,900. Good to see Wellington Suites as a future project.
