Lucky bastards. The Developer must have been pretty generous not to have sold off that amenity space to the highest bidder.

Mind you, I wouldn't want to be the penthouse owner with weights being dropped a floor above you.

Here is a question. Looks to me like the Penthouse isn't over the entire floor plate? Is there another penthouse on the east side. Because obviously the entrance comes off the center of the building were the elevator core is. Or are there just two single floor apartments on the east side. So this leads me to the second question the roof top on the the east side what goes there, public or private. Maybe this is were the surprise lies? I guess the mech roof will be above the 61st floor over the two penthouses? Or is it located on the 61st floor above the core between the two penthouses?

Jlousa already spilled the beans re the surprise; the surprise was the floodable art gallery located in the amenity space at the base of the tower.

That was the surprise?

*

BTW - there are I think 3 penthouses on Shangri-La. This one is only up for sale because the purchaser backed out.

Well this should clear up any confusion over the number of storeys in the Shangri-la. 61 storeys. I hope the moderator will update this thread's Title to reflect the current number of floors please.

Cheers

Two interesting mathematical problems to solve:

1. Calculate the maximum line of sight distance (distance to horizon) as seen from the top of Shangri-La (call it 200 meters above street level)

2. From the top of Shangri-La, compute how far away in km the top of another tower of Shangri-La's height could be spotted

The more precise formula for the first calculation is d (distance to horizon in km) = square root of ((2Rh + (h squared)))

where R is the Radius of the Earth in km and h is Shangri-La's height in Kilometers above sea level. Remember tower height above sea level not street level.

Let's see what answers you come up with for both problems...

I'll change the wording in Question 2 since that answer is simply twice the distance d answer from Question 1:

Question 2 rephrased: Calculate from what distance d in km you could stand at the top of Shangri-La (200 meters above street level) and spot the top of the antenna on the CN Tower (553 meters above street level)

neglect the effects of atmospheric refraction (generally adds 20 % to the distance value)

Nice. The box is quite visible. Is that a reflection on the lower half of the glass, or visible internal walls (yet to be built on the upper floors)?

What's the purpose of that "box"? It seems a little odd to just stick on there, really.

^^I like the box it breaks up the huge flat wall of glass...and its not like it really protrudes out...i wonder what the layouts like of the 2 level suites in the box.

Shangri-la top floor view distance to horizon using excel: =SQRT((2*6356.75km*0.202km)+0.202km*EXP(2)) = 50.69 Km. Not a bad view...

It's little wonder there has been so much confusion and arguing about this when this and this both say 62 stories.

Regardless if it's 62, 61 or 60 stories, there are only two buildings in Canada with more stories than this building.
