Indeed. We mustn't forget that the NHL is now essentially an American league, catering to American tastes and expectations. Bettman doesn't want Canadian expansion (beyond perhaps Quebec City). American owners don't want Canadian expansion. American media companies don't want Canadian expansion. They all know that American sports fans want to see American teams playing American teams. An LA Kings - New York Rangers game on TV will
always generate more viewership (and more ad revenue) than an LA Kings - Winnipeg Jets game.
The only thing that matters to the NHL BoG is money. Canadian fans just have to get used to this idea
or develop their own national professional hockey league (which isn't going to happen).
Ultimately I expect a 32 team NHL with 24 American teams and 8 Canadian teams, and we will be damned lucky to have those eight teams to cheer on, because if Bettman and the Board of Governors had their way, there probably wouldn't be any more than three Canadian teams in the NHL..........
