Connections with what airline? Emirates is not part of the Star Alliance. If you look up YEG-DUB on AC, they route you through Frankfurt. Emirates and WestJet are on the opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of service so i doubt they are codesharing.

The loss of one of the Seattle flights is dissapointing. I don't know how much the San Francisco upgrade has to do with it. Is there that many connecting flights out of San Fran?

Coming back to the YEG-DUB comments above. The connecting thing through Frankfurt bugs me. The problem with LHR is that AC's Star Alliance partner BMI is a terrible connecting airline. It has very few quality connecting international flights from LHR unlike Lufthansa from FRA. It would be interesting to see the statistics of how many Edmontonians connect through LHR and connect through FRA. Connecting in FRA means we must fly through YYC, YYZ, YUL or YVR which boosts the other airports and hurts us. Let's get that YEG-FRA route EIA.

UA has a hub at SFO so it is a big connection city for destinations through the U.S,South pacific and Asia.

They are not coming to YEG.

The YYZ route is 3x weekly because the current bi-lateral agreement between Canada and UAE allows a maximum of 6x weekly flights. 3 were taken up by Etihad, and Emirates took up the other 3. Emirates actually wants to go daily on the YYZ route but the Canadian gov't. said that fly the Toronto route for a year and if it is profitable, we'll negotiate. Emirates also stated they want to serve YYC as their second Canadian destination after YYZ goes daily. YYC won't happen until 2009 at the earliest because of the Canadian gov't.

Haha, then by that reasoning, YEG should have asian airlines lining up to get slots, after all, theres millions of them that visit WEM each year

It's quite funny but i probably visit Banff more times in a year than WEM.

Banff is overrated walking back and forth on the main street and buying Canadian nicknacks made in China. Visiting the Rocky mountains and seeing the beauty in and around Banff is very much worthwhile.

But WEM? There's plenty of bigger malls, shopping centers, or whatever they wanna call it in other parts of the world. There's better selection in downtown Montreal or in a suburb of Houston then there is at WEM in terms of shopping. But i guess if riding the mindbender and buying some $40 dollar jeans at the GAP rocks your boat, so be it.

Emirates officially said in a press release that there target is the oil market of Calgary. No YEG because all the HQs are in Calgary. YYC also better connections to other Western Canadian cities such as YVR.

Yield? Most of those passengers are price-consious tourists, visiting family and friends and won't want to pay for J class, which most airlines target.

YYC's "blue-eyed shieks"

will probably want to fly EK's J and F class products.

Why does every forum break down into an Edmonton - Calgary pissing match?

Leave the rivalry in the hocky rinks and football fields.

It is in the best of everyone to have both airports working together and attracting flights.

By all means if Edmonton took some flights, It would be nice for everyone at YYC if the security line for D gates didn't reach halfway to C.

and Sidenote: YVR, YOU NEED A BIGGER DOMESTIC TERMINAL!!!!!!!!!!!! EXPAND THE DOMESTIC FIRST!!!!!!!! (Or atleast do something to make it less cramped and crowded).

YEG will obviously attract more and new flights, after all YEG is still the fastest growing airport pax wise in the country per annual growth.YYC diddo.We have a Billion dollar expansion on the way and with that we can hopefully see the current undersized terminals even out with the new extension.As for Emirates entering the market, it wont be for a long time if it ever happens.The bi-lateral agreement (which I think is lame) says that EK must first prove service to Canada is feasable via YYZ and the service must be able at some point to be flown daily with satisfactory loads of both pax and freight before permission to serve another Canadian city is given.Why are they so hard on EK???I dont know.

They are hard on EK because they like most middle east airlines will kick the snot out of any north american carrier and can do so at a lower price. In other words its more protectionism.
