The West Lake area is actually really hot for certain demographics right now. Not only is there the lake itself, but also Dean Parkway, Cedar Lake, Lake of the Isles, the Cedar Lake Trail, and the Greenway are all very accessible from this location. There's the new LRT station under construction. Although it's a fairly auto-oriented site, the Calhoun Village shopping center and adjacent commercial uses do provide most of your daily needs-- Whole Foods, Walgreens, about a dozen fast-casual and casual sit-down restaurants, etc. The West Lake area seems to be very popular with people who want one foot in the city and one foot in the western suburbs. And I think there's a travel market for folks who want the same thing. Not business travelers, but leisure travelers. It does seem like the kind of area where the difference in hotel business between the summer and winter months would be very dramatic, though.
