The Hudson Bay story continues to evolve.....

So it looks Ruby is taking over 20+ of the leases and plans to launch her new department store under the "New Bay" banner. She would have likely to pick up the Bay branding but that went to Canadian Tire.

Hopefully she negotiated a good rate with the trade mark lawyers who is helping her with this .....

Quote:
Hudson's Bay reaches deal to sell up to 28 leases to Vancouver Island mall owner

Canada's oldest company says it will seek court permission for Ruby Liu to take over some properties it leased in Alberta, B.C. and Ontario.

Hudson's Bay plans to sell up to 28 of its store leases to a Vancouver Island mall owner who wants to launch "a new modern department store."

A press release from Liu, a serial investor who owns three B.C. malls, said the business she will build will be focused on "bridging the gap between generations, providing immersive shopping experiences, and becoming a destination where all age groups thrive together."

Isn’t it weird how you or I would get the third degree over bringing $10,000 into Canada yet there there seems to remarkably little information on how you can just bring “billions” into the country without proving how it was earned.

I know little about her. I can't say either way. Regardless of where the money comes from its is a "weird" story.

The local shopping center she owns in Victoria has had some nice renovations and expansions. Looks to be doing well.

I have little hope that she will setup a profitable department store in Canada. Even less if she tries to do 28 locations at the same time.

Yep, I was thinking the exact same thing. I wonder with all the Trump tariff economic issue if our federal government is just turning a blind eye since it's a gigantic financial investment. Will her stores be HBC brand or something else?

Local media in Victoria her quoted as saying it will be branded "New Bay". She is not concerned that would infringe on the IP Canadian Tires just purchased. I am not as certain.

It’s also a horrible name. I don’t see someone with their heart on the pulse of Canadian retail or with any chance of success. Owning a mall is different than creating and running a brand.

Everyone in BC could tell you the federal government in Ottawa has just been turning a blind eye on this kind of money movement for decades.

Perhaps. Perhaps not.

We don't know and never will. The immigration and customs records around an individual are private.

If you were rich in China I could easily see why would want to migrate to Canada. Taking your money with you.

The Chinese have not come out and said they are after her because of something she has done there. Canadian authorities had not either.

Gee, here's some facts. Why are they singing the national anthem for Communist China at Liu's Tsawassen Mills mall? Lunar NY isn't a state event.

Canadian and Chinese anthems at Tsawwassen Mills' Year of the Rabbit-eve event, with Conservative Sen. Victor Oh, Burnaby Coun. James Wang, PLA veteran Tiger Yuan and Yang Shu, Xi Jinping's top B.C. diplomat. No Delta or Tsawwassen First Nation politicians. #LNY #vanRE #bcpoli

Playing a foreign national anthem? You have a rather loose definition of what a fact demonstrating criminality might look like.

I think his utter contempt if not hate for Chinese people is showing.

Why, merely listening to 20 seconds of that has instantly turned me into a red book carrying Maoist

It's an event at a mall, not a sporting game where that would be traditional. Tell me why it needed to be played. Lunar New Year is not a CCP-state sponsored event, other nations celebrate it.

None of what you ask here addresses the claim you originally made, that the anthem was somehow a “fact” pointing to criminality.
