On the World Champions note....i'm always amused when American leagues claim world champion status when they're usually either A) Completely uncontested because nobody else plays the sport (American football) or, B) Clearly not the best in the world at the sport itself (baseball). The World Series champions are usually made up of plenty of non-Americans and the US has yet to even finish in the top 3 of the World Baseball Classic. I'd pay a decent amount of money to see MLB teams play against Korean or Japanese teams to fight it out for best club teams in the world.

On that note the 2017 World Baseball Classic is coming up in less than a month! Games being played in Seoul, Tokyo, LA, Miami, San Diego, and Guadalajara. Canada is in a group with the US and they play March 12th in Miami.

Wait, America isn't the centre of the world? Who knew!?

Wow! For a little city that's a lot of stadium. I'd be pinching myself if I was a Rider fan. I know how much the new BC Place has added to the game experience (for me). This looks like a great space for sports and concerts. They struck a good balance between openness and enclosure. And shit, Regina is just a bit bigger than Abbottford and Kelowna. Its good to have a province, even a little one, behind your town.

Cool your tits, he was giving a compliment. Little may be a bit extreme, but yes, Regina is on the small/medium side of things as far as cities/CMAs go in Canada. Nothing wrong with it.

And we got it built just under the wire. Now that we are running deficits it would have been a much much harder sale today.

I would say impossible. With all the cuts/possible cuts, austerity, and privatisation schemes being discussed, there's no way they'd have been able to get this through.

Wtf does World Baseball Classic have to do with the fact that the MLB is light years ahead of the Japanese league?

This isn't like soccer where there are five or six major leagues. The MLB is it. It's the Champions League.

That's not the point. In order to deem oneself a world champion, the competition needs to be open to athletes or, in the case of MLB, teams from all over the world. MLB, NBA, NHL, CFL, etc. are competitions between a closed group from 1 or 2 nations. A group from Europe or Asia couldn't assemble a team and mount a challenge. They could arguably develop a contender within a few short years if they were allowed to.

That they are the best leagues in their respective sports doesn't negate the argument.

Depends on what you define "world champions"

MLB has players from all over the world So "world chamions" can hold weight in that regard.

I agree the MLB can't claim "world champions" of baseball

But then again a grey cup winning team can claim they are "Canadian football champions of the world" Aka "World champions"

Really the only true "world champions" are national teams competing against other national teams.

When the MLB champion plays other champions from other leagues around the World and beat them, then I'll consider them as "World" champions.

That's a joke, right? As Nathan pointed out, it was all compliments, but you haven't traveled very far if you have a problem with Regina being a small city. Hell, Metro Vancouver is a small city when you widen your scope enough. Take a breath and absorb the truth . . . you shall be liberated, eventually.

Our 9 Garth Brooks shows are about halfway through and have introduced many a new folk to our new Rogers Place. Amazing what it does for Downtown pedestrian traffic, bars/restaurants and hotels. I highly recommend it.

Nice looking facility... it's cool to see some architectural flair in smaller venues, and I'm sure the 4 rinks will be well used. I'm a little surprised that it will have only 4,000 seats, though... that seems a bit small by modern day CHL standards.

With some exceptions, the Quebec league has generally lower attendance than Ontario and the West.

Gatineau traditionally has averaged about 2500 per game and their current rink holds 2800 with several hundred more standing room spots. They've also averaged the capacity (or over it) in some years, but this year they're around 2000 per game I'd say.

There has been talk of 4500 or 5000 seats as well, but finally they settled on 4000. I guess they don't want to overbuild and would like to create a bit of a scarcity of tickets to stimulate demand.
