Thanks for the picture. It does look a bit different than some of the proposals images. Maybe they realized its mass and added the different colors and some different geometrical shapes. But you are correct...it is massive. Would have been nice if they could have broken it up into 2 buildings or maybe balconies would help with that prison feel. But at least we have more housing.

Restaurant

Looks like a new restaurant will replace the old Boys and Girls Club downtown.

471 W Congress st

Just an update: The project at 471 W Congress St. bringing 338 new units to the SE corner of I-10/Congress st. have been applying for permits with Tucson water. So, looks like things are still moving along hopefully.

Project presentation as of Feb. 2024:

TUSD HQ Student Housing

https://pro.tucsonaz.gov/parcel_search/12406171B

It looks like there have been plans submitted to CoT in January for the student housing that is set to replace the old TUSD HQ's enormous parking lot.

Looks like a pretty enormous concept in terms of beds. They've submitted two plans to the city, both look like the TUSD headquarters will stay in place. Maybe they'll remodel if and use it as a common area?

One plan is two multi story buildings, one on the parking lot and the other adjacent to the main HQ structure. They'll be connected by a 3rd floor sky bridge over 10th st.

The other is a slightly taller building that is entirely on the parking lot and use the other space as a park.

I wonder how it'll affect operations at The Rock.

Is that brick? That looks nice...even though it all looks more like a college classroom building than a place to live.

ADOT has begun the next study phase for the Sonoran Corridor (State Route 410) in Pima County. This proposed new freeway would connect Interstates 19 and 10, south of Tucson International Airport.

Next Steps for Tier 2

The current study, which includes a Tier 2 Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and Design Concept Report (DCR), will:

Develop and evaluate a range of 400-foot-wide freeway alignment alternatives within the 2,000-foot corridor. The study will also evaluate a “no-build” alternative.

Evaluate environmental considerations and proposed mitigation.
Develop design concepts and features, such as interchange locations and bridges.

Select a preferred freeway alternative, which would include the alignment, interchange locations and other design features.
Provide several opportunities for public and stakeholder input throughout the process.

Very occasionally something actually meaningful will show up in my Facebook feed. Today was one of those days.

A Facebook post from something called The Trost Society appeared on my screen. This is a page primarily devoted to the architecture firm Trost & Trost. As I'm sure many here know, Trost & Trost was an El Paso-based firm that designed many commercial, institutional, and residential buildings across the southwest. This includes many in Tucson.

Not only is there a Trost Society Facebook page, but also a nicely done website that includes an interactive map of all of the known Trost & Trost buildings. Currently the interactive map shows 40 Trost & Trost buildings in Tucson. The interactive map is accessed from the Buildings pull down menu on the Society's homepage.

You are very welcome southtucsonboy77. I always appreciate your contributions and the contributions of everyone to this forum.

Tucson is not perfect for sure, but IMHO it has much to offer and is getting better and better as a place to embrace, live vibrantly, and enjoy on a daily basis. There is much to celebrate and savor here in the Old Pueblo.
