Did there used to be a building on Olympic now missing in this shot?

Agreed but I guess I'll take it since everything in the area is actually worse. Despite being boring, Jia provides a breath of fresh air. Says a lot about Chinatown's current state.

Hopefully the ground level retail exterior will get something better than stucco.

Ha! Everything TCA designs looks dated before it's complete.

I can't say I like the upper stories either but at least the ground floor storefronts look promising for the time being.

Well this certainly is good news. I hope the new park doesn't take too long to become reality.

Not a huge NFL fan but I could get behind a MLS team in DTLA.

The Jia has a few interesting angles if you're coming into Chinatown and Hill, with interesting roof lines and what looks like common spaces maybe, but mostly it's monolithic and kinda ugly. We'll see what happens streetside (there was a sign that a starbucks is coming), but I don't know. It's better than a parking lot, but it's just so uninspiring.

I believe there was a building there that was demolished.

Edit: Is this it?

I don't remember if it's been brought up here before, but a new bar/restaurant/lounge called Ebanos Crossing is opening this summer at 2nd and Hill Sts in what was most recently Pho Citi. Judging by its partners and the design, odds are that it will do well. Slowly but surely we're seeing some new life in the areas between Civic Center and the Historic Core. Just a few blocks down 2nd, Badmaash has also been a big hit since it opened last month.

I'm sure the Baker Apartments were next to the car wash. So about one block east. In this picture you can see the hotel Figueroa on the right.

I don't think so, I believe there used to be a shorter building on Olympic right across the street from the Regal Cinema. But in that pic of the Courtyard it doesn't seem to be there anymore. That's what I was curious about.

This has been on the radar for a while. >1 year ago I filled out a survey from MLS that asked specific questions like, "would you support an MLS franchise based in DTLA?" My guess is this has always been a potential plan if the NFL ever fell through.

They better be relocating the Galaxy though because there's no way I'd switch over to f****** Chivas or some other rebranded team.

Finally! Best news in weeks. I wonder if the city had a hunch that this property would eventually become available and ever figured it into their possible future designs for Grand Park? I'd love it if they could implement something faster than 2-3 years. If they are starting from scratch though, maybe they'll use it as an opportunity to hear people's criticisms of Grand Park (CONCRETE) in order to improve it.
