I'm sure that this has been covered by someone before, but might the 750 be calculated from ground/rail level (i.e., are 80 of those feet between the elevated sidewalk and the ground below)?

The 730' is supposedly measured from street level, meaning the distance from the lower level to the top of the buildings will be ~770'. That would mean that its visual impact in terms of roof height above sea level will fall somewhere between the Bell Atlantic Tower and the Mellon Bank Building.

Not according to the criteria commonly used, such as those of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat:

Quote:
Height is measured from the level of the lowest, significant, open-air, pedestrian entrance
See more here:

http://www.ctbuh.org/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=zvoB1S4nMug%3d&tabid=446&language=en-US

So in this case, the height is measured from the level of the main lobby on upper Walnut Street where most pedestrians and the building's main users and occupants will be entering, and not from the level below that will contain what is essentially a service entrance.

Thanks to you and Teakwood for the information.

I don't understand, even though it "is" or "isn't" in GHo? Most People are recognizing GHo as Broad to River, South to Washington Ave. - this project is firmly in the GHo boundaries.

Somewhat of a simplistic article of stuff we all already know, but thought it was worth a read.. I just wish wish wish wish there was something we could do about changing the tax structure today, but this is a process that is going to take a very long time..

I was listening to the radio the other day, and they were talking about the "Montana 2" program, and how Montana isn't joining the rat race of places trying to lure corporations with zero taxes and a lower quality of life. Instead it is to focus on "Why you want to live there". This is exactly the type of marketing Philly needs and does already to an extent.

^^^A 700+footer on Market East would really transform the skyline - balance it out.

Along with FMC further West, give it those peaks and Valleys, density and depth that's not really known outside of Chicago and NYC.

We keep wishing. In the meantime, I'm just happy that a few tall-ish buildings are planned in that half of Center City. When viewed from the South, it will make the St. James look just a little less like an outlier.

Oh CRAP ! Just when I think it's safe to think about other projects , i.e., a third tower for Comcast or something else over that 1000 ' barrier , that has been so hard for this town to come to grips with ( City Center Tower or the huge ass American
Commerce Center ) plus several other near misses , I can only hope that corner
won't go to waste like the lot at 19th. and Market .... A location denied something
really special and crying for a 700 or 800' beauty .
...... Just my opinion , mind ya .

Tower crane going up for Museum Towers II.

This marks 10 tower cranes that will be visible from the Parkway alone for the popes visit.

CITC - 3
FMC - 2
Dalian - 2
1601 - 1
MT II - 1
1919 - 1

Hopefully tower cranes for East Market, 700 Schuykill and 500 Walnut will rise before the last weekend of the month and that will mark 16 tower cranes up in the city for the pope visit.

I was on parkway and saw a huge mobile crane over at that site and figured they were assembling the tower crane. 16 is a good number. 19 would be better, but we are running out of time and I dont even think bases exist at 500 walnut or CHOP site.
