It was!! I remember watching the moon landing too, but that's for another thread. At any rate, I think that we are VERY fortunate to be getting some very attractive buildings now instead of a complete crop of mediocre ones.

There is a very nice CGI (computer generated imaging) time-lapse effect sequence of the construction of the Transamerica Pyramid between 1971 and 1972 in the 2007 movie Zodiac. The movie also features another CGI fly-over of the Pyramid's construction site pit earlier in 1969 closer to the begining of the movie.

Right you are. I watched Zodiac in the theatre when I was still living in Chicago, and when that scene came out I heard some say "Oh, look, thats the pyramid building" It was nice to see, but not much like seeing it rise in person. It was, however, a nice reminder of home

I almost forgot the midrise:

A closer look at the 2-story wall of glass:

I think this is going to look so good at street level when it's done:

Hmmm, I was aware that the midrise would have the same color scheme as its partner, but I guess not, at least not in this part of the building. Either way, the glass looks very nice

I think it will on the upper floors. I've been wanting to take a closer look at the model in the sales office to confirm that and some other details, but they won't let you in without an appointment. I've been thinking about making an appointment and posing as a potential buyer just to get access to it. How skyscraper-geeky is that?

^^^Don't get in too much trouble. You may have to do the same thing at 45 Lansing to photograph a rendering.

I figured it should not take the glass too long to rise. After all, its only about what, 12 levels? The concrete looks like it'll top out around May or so, it shouldnt take too long to see any color changes. But, as BT said, you should make an appointment with 45 Lansing when the time comes

For that reason, we dont want you getting in trouble just yet ...

Getting blacklisted from all the condo sales offices -- that would be quite an accomplishment!

I just took another look at the photo of the model BT posted and noticed the white vertical line going up the side of the midrise:

You'll notice a notch in my photos going up the side. I had been wondering what that was for and now I know. It's for that feature. (Although the opposite side is visible on the model, I think it's safe to assume that will be present on both sides of the building.)

If this building had a 62nd floor, that small topmost construction platform might be it. Imagine watching the Blue Angels or looking for hawks and other goodies from up there. Too bad we can't send Downtown Dave up there to take pictures. Hey, just kidding you Dave. Anyone else? Ehhhhhh.... Dave, there's still another more comfortable, safer, and less dizzying alternative not too far away...

I know, I haven't forgotten. I picked up the flu or something on my last business trip and haven't gone anywhere. I'll set up a session up there soon.

Was it air-conditioning that got you? Anyway, I wouldn't blame you for not wanting to go up there like this photographer. Imagine sneezing...

I normally work at home with the windows open -- I am not used to being inside in artificial heat, which is probably what got me.

Taken through a medicinal haze on terra firma:

up to the 10th floor now:
