You got this backward. Port Arthur and Fort William have such a high amount of continuous development that most people no longer know where the boundary was, we're more like Kitchener and Waterloo at this point. Take a look at Thunder Bay's Northwood Ward, today considered to be part of Fort William, and see if you an find all three city lines (Fort William-Port Arthur, Fort William-Shuniah, and Port Arthur-Shuniah) that intersected in the middle of it. Hint: they are all still present, unbroken, in the area's development today. Good luck. (If you care. )

Chicoutimi and Jonquiere are much further apart with only some subdivisions between them.

That is actually what I meant but mixed them up.

Question: What’s the steepest grade on the 11 between North Bay and New Liskeard?

Thebault Hill coming out of North Bay or The hill by Tilden Lake.

Perhaps a realignment of 11 between Sturgeon Falls and Marten River should take care of that.

It could be a solution.

They've built a runaway truck ramp on that section of 11 coming into North Bay.

I believe it's been there for over 20 years?

When I first saw a video of that, i was surprised to see it’s a thing in Ontario too. For 18-wheelers’ sake, though, let’s make the slopes as smooth as possible.

I just had another idea:
North Bay “Route 6” gets a new alignment between Highway 17 and Meighen Avenue. Is it possible to start the Highway 11 Bypass somewhere between Highway 63 and Meighen Avenue? There are 2 catches though:
(1) Since the interchanges within North Bay seem pretty close to one another, a 2+2 collector system, like the one on Conestoga Parkway, will be needed;
(2) The bypass will tackle 2 hills and fly over Airport Road at a height of 300 m with a span of 500 m. That sounds like a hard sell, eh?

The MTO has looked at realigning Hwy 11 into North Bay from the North but I'm not sure how serious the ministry was. Thibeault Hill has been a concern but the only reason for it.

I don't think that there was ever a serious plan for that to Englehart. But they have looked at it because of the eventual plan to make the North Bay bypass and Hwy 17 to the West.

I could see Hwy 11 being 4 laned from Tem-Shores to Englehart. Not a freeway though.

If you look at Tri-Town Bypass, though, that thing seems half-done. It should be extended further to bypass the business area (AND THE LIGHTS!) then all the settlements along 11. As a matter of fact, the current route is so built up that the bypass will need to go all the way to highway 569, in which case an interchange will definitely be warranted at that spot. It’s the same with that 6-way intersection with highway 562, with highway 571 near Earlton, and finally with highway 569&624 and with highway 560 around Englehart. By the way, the ROW of the southern segment of the bypass looks a bit tight...

Well, these are just major intersections. Do we need to build overpasses for the minor ones though? I’d say yes, just because it’s all farmland between T-Shores and Englehart. The last thing anyone wants is a slow-moving farming vehicle crossing the highway as everyone’s rushing at 120 kph. Any thought?

What the MTO really needs to do in the North is to plan out the entire route, but first build bypasses to the cities and towns along the route.

If MTO refuses to, I can volunteer.

I’m definitely counting on y’all for suggestions and feedback though.

Important question: Can someone find the design for North Bay Bypass upgrade? There was an article that contained pictures of the new interchanges but (1) I couldn’t recognize the streets from the pictures and (2) I couldn’t find the article anymore.

PDF files will be preferred.

This is me trying to design a 4-lane freeway (upgraded Highway 11) around Temagami. Lines in orange = service roads (EDR).

(1) Approaching the town from the south:

(2) Around Temagami (Surprisingly property acquisition isn't bad, but the viaduct for the freeway will be pretty long by usual standard.)
https://imgur.com/a/Ke0T9aQ

(3) Around North Temagami (Unfortunately, I can't find space to put an interchange, not least because it'll have been too close to the one proposed.)

If I'm not going to sleep, I may even attempt Latchford - T Shores Bypass too. But dang it redoing everything from Serpent River to Sturgeon Falls will take forever...

Why do you wish to destroy a subdivision?
