Renderings are just marketing tools, not design specs. They should always be taken with a grain of salt. The problem is that you can't really paint the vents, as they're not a solid surface but grills. You'd probably have to change the ventilation cladding all together. Even though the cost of the change itself might not be huge, any delays in completing the building mean delay in revenue and paying off their financiers, which can be costly.

Budgets are extremely tight for the developer building the tower and the condo plan that will own it. There's little room for a frivilous thing like making the ventilation grills more pleasing for skyscraper nuts visiting the islands.

We're hoping that phase 2 will be cancelled and reproposed as a different design and taller height. It's pretty much as close to the centre of the CBD as possible, so it deserves to be a signature.

Yeah, most of us here hate them too, and for good reason. Calgary is basically the twin city. So many of our most prominent buildings are twins (EAP, Bankers Hall, Western Canadian Place, Suncor) and we have two prominent identical twins UC, the Guardians, at nearly 150 meters.
