That said, my dad has worked at Walmart for over a decade and makes less than I do per hour (and less than half of what I do overall since I actually get to work full time), even though I've had my current non-unionized job at a local business for only 18 months.
They're mainly entry level jobs though. They are quick to promote people who have it in them to succeed in that environment but for the most part, it's just kids and adults who are down on their luck going through a revolving door of shit jobs.

I work at Superstore, and the last CBA was quite a sham. At the time, the bait and switch offers in the contract attracted the younger people (myself included) who took part of it said yes to the contract offer, while the older employees who worked for the company for more than 10, 15, or 20 years said no to it. There is no unity with the old and young in terms of what the pay is, and who gets the full benefits. Everyone gets benefits, but not everybody will get full coverage, and the majority of the employees are part-timers.
The CBA for Superstore/Extra Foods expires next year, and I don't know what will happen in less than a year from now. I personally don't know if I'm going to stay with the company any longer because of ongoing management shuffles that's been happening for 2 years.
