Does anyone know how ownership/control of the Skywalks works since they're over city streets? I would love for some initiative to make them really cool... or at the very least not hideous as all the ones not built in the last 10 years are.

Portage Place controls the retail in the skywalk to the Bay, and the two skywalks on the way to MTS Centre.

^ I was thinking the same thing about Shaw. They've recently renovated the building right next to the SOD office. Quite nicely actually. So I don't think they're going anywhere for a while. They recently relocated their call centre to Winnipeg.

They have one of the Panasonic 150" TV's in there, or whatever crazy dimension it is. Thing is huge, and really thick.

Yeah, that's the one I just mentioned. In the corner at the NE corner of Bishop/Kenaston interchange. Beside the SOD office and MITT. My sister works in that office.

The rest of the cross walk system are now "managed" by the Winnipeg Parking Authority. They look after the funding agreements for cleaning etc.

When the original system was built along Graham, the cost was split up each connecting building pays 1/3 and city paid 1/3. I don't know if the Portage Place ones were funded the same way or if North Portage picked up the full cost.

City Place to the convention center a few years ago used up the last of the money they city had sitting in a account for skywalk building.

So the other offices right on Scurfield near Waverley have been quite full for some time. The new office is filling up. They've been moving people around between offices. Techs are running back and forth.

I just couldn't see them building a new tower downtown when they're spending all this money out there renovating and expanding. But you never know.

Who knows eh? Maybe one day. One thing I know for sure is that their office buildings in BC and Alberta are quite nice.

Heard today that the re-claddding of 360 Main is getting closer to reality.

apparently they are looking to do new glass curtain walls...

(old buildings are grandfathered and thus do not need to meet the Energy Code)

^ That would be fantastic...360 Main has aged rather poorly, it looked not bad when it was new, but now it just looks shabby and run down. I'm normally not in favour of recladding buildings, but in this case I think it would be a step up.

As I haven't seen any renders yet I was kind of hoping the building would have a new look, but after seeing the work they did on the banking hall atrium I worry that it will look the same, just fresher.

Leave it alone! And especially leave alone the colour!

If you're going to maintain it, that's another thing, but PLEASE leave the colour alone.

Must be those bicycling BRT people at it yet again.

Really? IMO that is the most hideous (prominent) building in the city.

You really couldn't do much to make it worse.

How unfortunate you hold such sentiment. There are numerous buildings in downtown Winnipeg which need to be recladded. Too many areas are cold and feel like the city is trapped in 1975.

I am glad that 360 is being recladded, Portage and Main no longer has a building that looks like it is covered in dirty snow year round. Also does the Richardson building have to be recladded or is it so old that it does not have to meet the energy code.
