I read that the new numbers are supposed to come out either next month or in March, but I'm not sure they'll be made public until April.

I was thinking it was a little low, I would expect us to be over 800,000 by the end of 2010.

Remember that the numbers released will be for April of 2010, not for December.

Those weren't the done by the bureau, though.

That's probably why it was removed. The reason is that number wouldn't have been compatible with numbers from other cities since the standard source is the Census Bureau.

In that case I would imagine we will be right around 800,000.

Good news, I believe way back when this was announced there was a rendering, I wonder if we can find it and if it will look as planned.

That is such a boring building. Too often "modernism"/"minimalism" is just an excuse for building cheaply.

Anyone know if the county definitions of the metro areas will be updated for the 2010 census?

I recall reading somewhere that Marble Falls could be designated as a micropolitan statistical area (comprised of Burnet and possibly Llano counties). If that's the case, perhaps it would be added to a combined Austin-Round Rock-Marble Falls CSA.

That already happened in 2008 or 2009. I'm assuming that in 2010 or 2011 Blanco county will be added to the Marble Falls mSA and, therefore, the Austin CSA. Llano county is another one to watch based on the lakeside communities' (primarily Kingsland) connections with Marble Falls.

I'm betting that we won't hit 800,000 in the census numbers for two reasons: we we're at 812,000 in December of 2010 according to the study detailed on Biz Journal, which is just close enough to assume that we'd be under 800,000 7-8 months before. Austin's population, just like other cities with large Hispanic populations, is perpetually undercounted - which could make the difference between having 799,999 and 800,000. That being said - I think around 799,000 is more likely.

Ah,ok...thanks. I thought it was still early in the process back then. That should put our CSA over 1.8 mil. In addition to Kingsland, a significant portion of Horseshoe Bay is also in Llano County.

Marble Falls is basically the commercial hub of the Highland Lakes region. That will be further enhanced with the planned developments on the south end of the city, surrounding the Tx71-US281 interchange...where Scott & White is building a regional medical center.

Which, if snowballed any further south, would tie in Blanco County as well.
