The advantage of having a grid is that there are multiple ways to get to Peachtree from Monroe.

Do you honestly drive at all? Stating having a grid is irrelevant. If you knew what you were talking about, you would know that people already use other streets. I guess you just wanted to make a statement about grids Midtown. Lol

Typical ridiculous scania response to an entirely accurate and reasonable comment.

*Like*

And City streets are paid for my local funds, not the Federal gas tax, many of whom do not own cars but pay these taxes. As such, it's only fare that streets be allocated among users. For the past 60 years they've only been allocated to drivers.

Typical ignorant response. Period. Lol. Now i asked him a question, if you have an answer then maybe you should reply. But your response is redundant. Let me say it this way since you didn't comprehend my statement. I know that there are other routes you can take, but there's already daily congestion during rush hour on 10th. Commuters are already using alternate routes as it is, there's no need to take a lane away, if anything there's room to expand for a bike lane which doesn't use that much space. This page can be so hillarious to me.

I somewhat agree, I think that some streets need to be expanded and add bike lanes.

I unfortunately don't have any pics, but they have started demolition on the crum and foster building on spring and 4th. I asked one of the guys and he said it was everything but the facade. Are they movving forward with the ~23 story data center building that incorporates the facade there? Or just demo'ing for now?

Thanks for the info. Here's a video view BEFORE demo, for nostalgia's sake: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqAVOt-K1OE

There are some pics atlpaul posted here: http://forum.atlantadev.com/#!/construction#gt-high-performance-computi

You can see there's a cut just behind the first 1/3rd of the building, so it's definitely more than just the facade that they're saving.

Beltline Gets Help From the Feds

The Atlanta Beltline announced that it will receive $18 million via a Tiger V grant from the Department of Transportation. Obviously this is tremendous news for both the Beltline and the City, as the grant will cover a good chunk of the $43 million projected cost of building out 2.5 miles of the southwest corridor (shown above).

So does this mean construction starts soon? I would think so. Why would they start demo if not?

Nope. The recently demolished areas will be lawned and used for parking until Georgia Tech decides to move forward with its the proposed center.

Which makes me wonder why demo it now?

They may not want to worry about any more opposition to the demolition in the future. (?)

Is this the same tower pitched by Brand Properties back in Feb? If so, two more floors have been added

Here's a video view of the site as it looks today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlBNHMC5WY8

If what you said is true, that's bullshit. With this past downturn, the city of Atlanta should have learned a lesson to not let Developers demo sites until the Developer can provide proof they can financially complete the project and have obtained all the necessary City Permits for the project. i.e.: Museum Tower, Cousin's Condo site on Peachtree, Street of Buckhead, the condo site in Lindberg with 2 levels built....etc.

They're counting bikes right now. They have a set of tube traffic counters in place at the Monroe Drive entrance/exit to the bike lane that have been in place for a couple of weeks now.

Yeah it was mentioned here as to what will hapen to the demolished section.

http://clatl.com/freshloaf/archives/2013...d-forster-buildings-rear-portion-is-gone

I too agree its BS that they can leave these demo sites vacant for long periods of time. I wish the old Wachovia tower at the corner of North and Peachtree was never torn down. That was a big hit to Midtown's skyline for years and the big condo project there never materialized. Now we will have that low rise Proton Therapy center at a major intersection.
