Actually... that is the typical detail, especially for commercial designs. 2-4" rigid down to 4' min.

Is that an office building? I'd pray it's not multi-res, because steel frame and multi-res don't mix well.

How so? There are many highrise residential apartment buildings out there that are built with steel. The one common downside with steel frame construction is vibration.

It's going to be a seniors home. Steel construction is less than ideal for residential but in this case it probably won't make that much difference

Amazon is looking for a lot of space and people as they want it to be similar in size to their Seattle campus.

Just seems so far fetched - and doubt they'd be interested in Class B or C vacant office towers - more like a huge, connected campus.

But, even only to get some practice, worth trying. We do have an advantage of being close to Seattle and only one time zone away.

I would rather that EDCC and the City at least get into the game than not do so at all. I don't understand people in this city who think we shouldn't bother pursuing these HQ opportunities and then wonder why we can't fill our office spaces.

Great opportunity to stretch our wings.

Crazy things can and do happen in regards to these opportunities. Its not always the cities you might think are shoe ins that get the green light.

Edmonton go for it with all cylinders pumping.

Agree.

Even though we (and realistically every Canadian city) have a slim chance, there's no reason why we shouldn't be making a pitch to highlight the unique benefits Edmonton could provide to a large corporation such as Amazon.

It helps get the city's name out, gives us an opportunity to showcase our strengths and later on learn from our mistakes.

^ Canada will have some advantages over the States now and maybe the future. America's current immigration policies have been a big factor in attracting and retaining top employees. Access to Asian and European markets might play into things while Cheeto Jesus pushes America First protectionism. NAFTA renegotiations could be a factor too since online retail is on the bargaining table.

Curious.. what mistakes that lead up to the last corporate exodus do you think Edmonton has learned from?
