It appears to be a small shipyard and staging area - hopefully the plan is to fabricate the parts in Lorneville and barge them to Halifax for assembly and finishing work. As HQ of JDI, I'm hoping we also get office jobs associated with the contract.
Yes this is true. Lets just say a little birdie told me?

I cant see anyone with much common sense doing this sense any jobs associated with the contract would take several months to come to fruition from the time of the announcement.

Saint John will play a key role here and see substantial spinoff from this contract.

Other than the Halifax area, Saint John will benefit most from this contract.

Couldn't have gone to a more deserving city. Congrats! I hope it creates a nice little boom for Saint John.

CHSJ news is reporting development at the former Downey Ford site:

Norton tells CHSJ News it will contain some of the largest service centres in all of Canada after the renovations are complete.

I don't know what they mean by "some of the largest service centres"

I'm assuming he means service centres as in servicing for cars and auto repair.

Bingo.

The Chipman Hill garage reportedly settled for a large sum of money with the family of the poor troubled lad who jumped to his death there a few years back and the garage was promptly "caged in" at great cost too. But the cages are somewhat an unfortunate knee-jerk reaction and redundant since you can just go to the top floor of either garage and bypass the "cages" to jump in an even more spectacular fashion, if you so chose. On a lighter note, they're also very practical for keeping the roosting pigeons out (and defiling your car in the process).

The cages at Chipman Hill truly look horrible since they were installed purely as a functional reaction to a problem with no consideration to design. At Peel Plaza, however, the cages are much smaller and integrated into the design such that from any distance you don't really see them at all. Also, the overall design (once complete) is bold enough that you'll never see them unless you're really looking for them (or can't look past them if you're into nitpicking the design). They don't concern me in the least.

Next thing you know they'll be putting netting on the railings of Brunswick Square because someone jumped from the 5th level down into the foodcourt last year.

A different skyline angle I took yesterday in that unusual January fog, from atop Loch Lomond Mall.

Downey will be opening a service center. Oil changes, tires, tune ups and etc.

I'll share my Flickr comment here as well:

Holy ****. Beautiful!

Truly is an amazing photo. Just brilliant. From the mist in the foreground to the clarity and colours of the clouds in the background. It's great. And the skyline, however small, is perfectly proportioned. I love it!

That's an astounding photo, Kwajo! I hope you don't mind if I grab it for a desktop background.

This month's PAC agenda is out. They're considering two applications: one to allow McDonald's to install new signs with electronic message boards at their East, North and West loactions; and an application by Hazen Properties to rezone the former Ming's Market building at Grannan and Prince William to allow for conversion of the ground floor commercial space to a two-bedroom apartment. Staff wisely recommend denial of the latter application.

I've been in that building - it's beautiful - an elevator opens right up into living room. Most have been a bank or insurance company as one of the apartments has a vault. Would live for them to remove the small tiling off of bottom floor and restore it back. Above that building looks great
