I'm not sure where you got your info from, but there's been a few nightlife spots on Edgewood for at least the past 10 years. Yes it's gone from one spot to another, but it's always had at least 3 or 4 spots on that strip.

Turner Field maglev

Interesting article about the proposed maglev train connecting Georgia State MARTA Station and Turner Field that would transport people to Braves games. My apologies if someone already posted this. Of course, the 800 lb gorilla in the room is the fact that MARTA completely bypassed Atlanta Fulton County Stadium back when it was built. Who thought that was a good idea? We could have avoid this mess completely.

Braves face hurdles in plan for train to stadium

ATLANTA — It's an alluring idea: An environmentally friendly electric train built at no cost to taxpayers that would fly above traffic, shuttling Braves fans from MARTA to Turner Field.

But there are reasons to doubt whether the $30-million floating train line discussed by the Atlanta Braves and Marietta-based American Maglev Technology will ever come to fruition....

Anyone have a rendering of the Hyatt on Luckie and Ivan Allen? I'm interested to see how it could impact my view of the city. Thanks!

My reference is my memory, going back to the Club 513 days, and there was nothing I would call a "district" by any stretch until the past few years.

It would have been the tallest building in the world. 2,014 feet.........

The list compiled by Curbed-Atlanta appears to be projects that actually had a chance of being built.
I seem to remember the Atlanta Tower was 'proposed' by the brother (or some other relative) of a former mayor (Andrew Young? Maynard Jackson?) and was going to be kind of a world trade mart. It was never going to actually happen.

There was a woman named Maria who lives in the Giant who has a copy. If you live there you should be able to contact her.

If Atlanta does annex parts DeKalb, it's should be more than just Druid Hills. I could see the city annexing everything west of Clairmont Road and north to I-85, which would provide the tax base to support annexation of Druid Hills and Emory. Playing around with some census numbers, I figure this would add about 50,000 residents to the city's population overnight. Not too shabby.

Small update: I drove up Northside this morning and saw a crew of surveyors on the north stadium site.

New Midtown tower

A partnership between Atlanta developer Seven Oaks Co. and The Brookdale Group LLC has sold nearly 1.5 acres in Midtown to become a student housing development.

Inland American Communities Group Inc. and Ambling University Development Group affiliates bought 1.44 acres at 930 Spring Street for $7.8 million.

The companies are building the 706-bed University House, a mixed-use student housing project anchored by a 20-story building that will feature 268 units.

Good news! What are the bounding streets for this lot? 8th and something?

The price also provides some additional perspective on the stadium lots. I'd say $5-10 million an acre is becoming the floor for desirable commercial land.

It's the lot directly across from the Publix. For a student what a great location, 10 sec walk to Publix, Macs Liquor store, and The Cheetah

I agree! This for me is GREAT news, but slightly disappointing. I was hoping they would build a tower not only for students. I can't wait to see the renderings. Hopefully it will be cool!!!

I went to the DRC mtg on this one. I know the architects were going back to the drawing board. I don't think it goes all the way back to Williams Street. And it has a horrible parking garage back there so not sure what would ever be built to the west of it.

They planned a restaurant space on the NE side. That will be a pleasant experience with that horrible club to the north blasting music in their faces.

I'm also assuming this would put an end to the student housing element proposed for the Gateway Development planned for next to LA Fitness. Or maybe not. How much student housing do they need???

It's not. But I'm hoping the activity will outweigh the bland design.

Fry's Latest Concept To Anchor Krog Street Market

Sibling webzines, EaterAtlanta.com and CurbedAtlanta.com have compiled a compendium of deets about the 30,000 square foot West Coast style market place slated to open later this year inside of a renovated 1920's era warehouse in hipstoric Inman Park.

Do you really think the land those churches sit on is 'valuable commercial property?'

Good to see some development in this part of Midtown; too bad the building looks straight out of Moscow circa 1965. Maybe it'll get better?
