took the long way home tonight after visiting family... saw a crane off 75 near west paces and had to investigate. decently-sized apartment building, new to me, under construction at the piazza at paces subdistrict, called vallate.

http://www.emstructural.com/vallate-apartments/

the parking garage core is already a few stories high, so it seems to be pretty well underway. i never got the memo that we were back in a growth phase, but i'm not complaining!

That's good looking. The city could use plenty of infill like that.

LOL! For this to be like the City-Data forum, there would have to be countless people thrashing every single thing about Atlanta multiple times daily - including just making shit up and outright lying. Even in the main City Discussions thread here, with the exception of just a couple of hardcore idiots that has become fairly rare.

At least here in this thread, we don't have to deal with that (except on the odd occasion.)

at least the racists have been kicked off of there (for the most part). it had gotten to where they would use pretty much any topic as a launching pad to "have an honest discussion about race" (that's really what they called it!).

That's REALLY good to hear, bryantm3! That was one of many things that made me leave that site over a year ago. I don't even look at it anymore at all.

I agree with Blueiguy84. Where is this thread's moderator? 99% of recent posts should be deleted, warnings given, and then suspensions.

Now, so I'm not guilty of the very thing I'm railing against: the comparison of the developing cluster around 12th and Peachtree compared to the one around 6th/7th and Peachtree is astonishing. Hopefully, the new building about to start at 7th will bring the low standard there up a bit. I'm out of town for a good while, could someone post pics of these two areas? It'd be appreciated.

As has been said previously, when major high-rise construction starts up again it will be here. In the meantime, this has become the de facto go-to thread for all things Atlanta. It is what it is...

Perhaps you need to check out the other city specific threads if you think this is so bad. In the meantime, get off of your high horse.

I look forward to the day when we have so much traffic on this and other Atlanta threads that we can have only construction on this one, but I have to agree with atlantaguy that until we have better alternatives and more discussion on topics such as transit and density and urbanism that warrant and develop into a strong thread, we are better off staying on this one which almost always has daily posts. In the meantime, if I do post something on transit or urbanism, I try to relate it to skyscrapers and construction where possible. Obviously construction of new buildings is not separable from politics and other urban topics. As more cranes are flying we will be able to leave the other topics to the Atlanta threads (which are now largely comatose) and the rants on city discussions.

I might suggest...

I might suggest that everyone try to snap a few pics of projects now and then when driving around. I try to do this every other week to keep the focus on development around town on the forum.

We have a ton of active construction sites.

What are the big bars in Edgewood these days? I wouldn't mind checking them out myself. (Via MARTA of course).

Mother (from the Beep Beep folks) has been open a few months at 447. Sister Louisa's, Corner Tavern and Sound Table are the biggies on that end. Not sure if Joy Stick is open yet, but their sign is up. On the west end, Vesuvius had a fire last week and is closed but Noni's is still going strong.

I really like the Sound Table, arjay57. It's from the same folks behind Top Flr.

Joystick has been open for almost a year but did just get a nice neon sign out front. It's so exciting to see new stuff opening on the street like Mother a few months ago. CHURCH is still the cornerstone, I feel.

I remember moving to the GSU Commons in 2007 when they opened and we thought that it was shady for being so close to Edgewood Ave. Fast forward to 2013 and the kids living at the Commons think they've lucked out with the night life options. Also, the foot traffic between all the GSU dorms has gotten ridiculous at night.

Same owner, but Sound Table only gets business like once a week. It doesn't get the business of a Top Flor. Tho I like the decor of Sound Table more!!!

The advent of nightlife along Edgewood is a godsend, and definitely one of the best things to happen in ATL nightlife in years. It went from being nothing to being a top 5 nightlife district in the city in no time flat.

The perception of it being a bit unsafe adds to the vibe right now, imo. Keeps things from getting mainstream and boring. People go to Edgewood because they are tired of the polished and predictable nightlife in Buckhead and VaHi.

Morris Brown alums protest Friendship Baptist stadium plan (Atlanta Business Chronicle)

I expect the Falcons to announce their intention to build on the north site at next week's stadium press conference.

Some poster at city-data started a forum on this http://www.city-data.com/forum/atlanta/1933689-atls-top-10-towers-never-happened.html. They left one the biggest of all, a 130 story proposal called the Atlanta Tower, does anyone remember this??

It would have been the tallest building in the world. 2,014 feet.........
