Also need to let the frost out of the ground for road construction. With the relatively mild winter, shouldnt be too deep. It's still early in the season.

Nice to see at least some progress. Feels like not much has happened around Winnipeg since the 101/59 interchange opened.

I assume they still need to finalize design drawings. Get a tender out for contractors. Line up the cash flow. Etc.

Probably do rock blasting work over winter.

I noticed on snap chat on the snap map people are video taping near kenora major road blasting. Parts of the trans Canada is gravel in parts.

They've been doing some blasting out there. Not sure if it's maintenance or for the future phase of widening. I think they have ongoing blasting operations every so often in problem areas. To push the rock face away from the roadway. Some of those stretches are narrow and cause big accidents. Basically in a big trough doing 90 with the walls right off the edge of pavement.

Recently there was a big boulder that was blasted onto the highway and they needed to blast it again right on the roadway.

The first section of road for the widening is from MB border to Hwy 673. A relatively short stretch of the highway.

MTO has been quietly doing work along Kenora Bypass until one day that giant boulder made the news. (I shared it a few pages back.)

They were working on all the bridges on the bypass the past summer, pretty extensive!

Wait a second...what's the province planning to do at the Symington overpass?

I ask because although there's no real idea of when it will happen, I get the impression that the Bishop Grandin extension to Hwy 1 has more or less made it on to the city's radar. As such, I wonder what they plan to do with Plessis at the yards to facilitate the extension. I don't imagine we're talking about any substantial changes, of course, but the ramps must make it something of a close-run thing if you get my drift.

It was shored up with steel supports in 2016 and probably needs permanent replacement now.

I recall reading at the time MIT and their contractor (MD Steele) were having problems with CN on getting time to access the piers between the tracks as some of them are the lines that run up to the hump and CN did not want to shut them down.

I would hope the Province and City work together on a long term functional plan. Bishop would be best served to connect with plessis directly. As opposed to just running straight out to fermor near 101.

The short term bishop extension is only a local road to des hivernet to serve sage creek.

CN doesnt give two shits about how difficult they make it to do that bridge work. Do not stop the trains. That's their business.

It’s nuts they are waiting until Fall to get going. They’ve had 10 years to be ready to go once it was made official. :

Yep I'm sure there was a full crew of construction workers that were stationed right there waiting at the ON/MB border, with the machinery on-site, and material deliveries scheduled for the morning after the press release for the last 10 years.

.
You are right, it is just a little extension to serve Sage Creek. The COW ends at Plessis Rd approximately 1.5 km from Lagimodiere. That is the gravel road portion of Plessis. Not the overpass area. Any connection to the overpass would have to run through the RM of Springfield.
