Not sure how old that building was. Looks like 60's maybe.

Most of my close friends are Francophone and hate how much St. B and especially Provencher are held back by these weird groups. Would much rather see it a busy thriving neighbourhood that everyone can enjoy, with Francophone and Metis culture at the forefront. Some times I think this is an "old (French) man yells at cloud" situation - because the young people, who will be the decision makers soon, tend to disagree.

It's one thing to be aggressive in trying to keep the French culture and language alive – but I'm not sure how empty crumbling buildings and vacant lots everywhere are doing that at all.

That’s basically it exactly. Soooo much potential for this neighbourhood, and I’m not talking about making it something it’s not. Development *is* the way to preserve francophone/Métis culture here. What better ambassador to a culture being relevant than an entire neighbourhood that everyone wants to visit, play in, live in, and spend money on?

I think that the up and coming generation of francophone youths are fully on board with the status quo unfortunately. Look what just happened with the rfp fiasco. Now that said, I think they'd likely be more liberal on bigger and more urban projects happening on other lots, but there's still a deeply entrenched attitude of stasis being passed on from older generations

Seems like due to some internal-to-Qualico VIPs buying homes they are expecting it to get started fairly promptly. Possessions beginning near the end of 2022 apparently (I guess we'll see what actually happens).

We're currently looking into one of the main floor terrace units.

Some demolition has recently occurred to clear out the site, seems like some Hydro work has been done as well:

That was a joke. Looks great.

I was going to ask what the people next door must think. But they have a team open sign on their fence, so I assume they're cool.

The nice part is that backs on to his other proposal - 155 Provencher (8 storey, 96 unit)

Is that still a thing or is there some secret moratorium on building new stuff on provencher?

If there is objection from the locals, Verne could just add a Trans Am up on blocks and junk scattered in the yard to fit the local aesthetic. That should get it passed.

Manitoba Possible has a new website with video (no sound) and renderings of their St.Boniface Civic Campus proposal.

You can view it here: https://www.manitobapossible.ca/development

Notice how the old St.Boniface City Hall and Firehall are both still standing post-development.

Nice, that was quite quick.

Hopefully the "condos coming soon" come sooner now, after like 10 years.

So apparently the SFM has reached an agreement with Manitoba Possible to purchase the old city hall building from them once they take possession. I assume this means that the rest of the proposal will still go forward, but it isn't totally clear at this point. Allard and a bunch of other people I know have posted about it on FB, the same characters that vociferously opposed the sale to MB possible in the first place as though it was some sort of cultural erasure. Anyways, I guess this is a fair compromise assuming that the original development doesnt get canceled.
