Indeed.... Terrible design. They would need to segment it with an arched canopy.

Once they finish re-working the Mackenzie-King entrance, it will look a little less sketchy and more open. Stairs are just at the left, out of frame.

Didn't they have free lunch time rooftop concerts there for the Bluesfest in the past?

The new Convention centre doesn't really connect to the rooftop terrace, just large blank walls all over. Are there plans to correct this in the future?

I think the rooftop terrace is vital part of the emergency/fire exit scheme of the entire complex including the convention centre and Westin Hotel.

I was in the old food court on Canada Day and thinking how strange it is that it is now so old fashioned and cave like and overcrowded...it seems like yesterday that it was renovated into a modern (at the time) food court with talking garbage cans and funky lights on the ceiling. Time flies...

I came across a neat (and very short) poetry video that shows the historic facade of the Charles Ogilvy building:

Saw signs up for a Kiehl's store today. I don't think we knew about that one previously.

Elise did a fine job on this tribute. I shared it on my Ogilvy's Facebook Group the other day. The photo used dates to around 1919. Stunning building back in its day.

Worried about the interior, but can't argue that the new exterior will be a huge improvement.

New Nordstrom at Rideau Centre on the hunt for 30 managers

Norman Provencher, Ottawa Citizen
Published on: July 22, 2014, Last Updated: July 22, 2014 12:09 PM EDT

Upscale fashion retailer Nordstrom is looking for 30 managers for its new Rideau Centre store, which is scheduled to open March 6, 2015.

Management positions are available in all areas of operation, including men’s, women’s and kid’s apparel, shoes, accessories and cosmetics, as well as support positions in alterations, housekeeping, logistics, a restaurant and an espresso bar, the company says in a release.

In addition to the usual salary and benefits packages, one of the perks for interested parties is that managers receive a 33 per cent merchandise discount.

Hiring is expected to begin in late August. The company will hire an additional 350 employees for sales and support roles beginning in January 2015. Total staffing is expected to be about 400, the company said.

““Canada is a new frontier for us and there will be opportunities to grow with the company as we expand and open stores across Canada,” said John Banks, store manager for Nordstrom Rideau Centre, in the release.

New managers will be brought to Seattle from October to December this year for an all-expense-paid immersion program to learn about the company culture and hear from Nordstrom leaders and have the opportunity to work alongside a mentor manager in a local store. Housing, food and travel will be paid for by Nordstrom.

I heard last night from a friend that works at the Lush @ St. Laurent that the store in the Market will be closing and transferring to a new space in Rideau... kinda disappointed to see one of the few destination/known retailers in the market close

Agree. With Lansdowne and Rideau expansion the market might be left just for tourists businesses and restaurants.

There's a few shots in this CBC clip of the new food court if anyone's interested.
