Question

that lamp thing is bizarre. i don't understand what it is or why it is on the roof or why it exists at all. of all the post-modern art i've seen, this is the most confusing/pointless. the crystalline fibers the lamp is spewing out are creepy.

it will look better when it's done?

Wow! Thanks for the photo links. It looks really great inside. Plus, imagine how incredible the views of the mountains and water will be on a clear day like today.

I am very impressed.

Awesome pics, great find.

The interior looks better than I ever could've imagined. It's a beautiful venue. Here are a few pics I've managed to link to:

Wow. nice pictures. Thanks.

The convention centre is coming along. I'm liking it more and more as I see more of it (internally, and externally).

Hmm that odd it's supposed to be open to traffic today already. They took down the fences yesterday and finished clearing the road. Oh well the longer they don't open it the better for me.

Why would they be temporary? If they are, so be it. But I rather like them.

They don't disrupt the view from anyone on the main level looking out.

And if you are on the steps where this photo was taken, most of your view is actually of the grand hall. In that instance, the parallel structures tend to draw your eye down the edge of the wall of windows, visually stretching the length of the hall (as seen in the photo).

Some folks might like the row of pure plain columns, but you would have some type of lighting anyhow. The structures actually add a context for that lighting. You'll also note the lower slat structure actually mirrors (literally and figuratively) the awnings on the outside of the great hall. Without them, those would be unmatched on the inside yet still visible. Having the interior structure softens the effect, and even dresses it up.

I think it would actually look kinda bare and unfinished without the parallel structures. I guess everyone sees it differently, but I rather like the slat structures.

They're probably structural support for the glass wall. There doesn't seem to be any other support for it (i.e. no structural glass ribs running vertically at the mullions).

I like the splotchy white on the wood walls and ceiling.

Wowsa! That looks amazing! I especially like how every surface feels finished to me - the floor, the walls. Plus, all very west coast. Beautiful venue!

See! I remeber many people on here saying it was going to turn out ugly, and now they like it, same with the Fairmont tower, and the Canada Line stations, etc... we all have to learn to not judge something until it is finished! most things look like crap when u/c, but when everything comes together it often comes out right! This convention center does look great!
