No smoke in Calgary either, but we’ve got other problems. The mosquitos are out of control this year thanks to the endless rains.

Looks like we finally get a nice stretch of 3-4 days before another round of unsettled wet. I’ve given up at this point of getting any real summer at this point, so I’ll just enjoy the rare sunny days when they come.

News is a state of emergency declared for the entire Bay de Verde peninsula north of Bristol's Hope. Ground crews have been pulled from.the front line.

If today of all days they're pulling the ground crews then the fire must be growing at an alarming pace right now, enough that they fear for their own safety.

River was so low and narrow I had to do a double take. And BIL is at the cottage and said the well ran out of water. Our well is not deep but the neighbour's is so he is getting water from them to wash the dishes.

And last night I was sorting through my latest rock haul, which I had in two bags. As I was going through one, three young raccoons came right up and started digging in the other bag two feet away from me. I was walking up to them and they didn't even flinch.

32C with a humidex of 37 and sunny. It's actually not overly humid (dewpoint has been in the 16-17C range) so Westerners would have loved today as well.

Low of 20C this morning. Normally with the highs we are having, I would expected the low to be around 22C but like I said earlier, it's not humid


The warmspots were Lytton, BC and Pembroke, ON at 34.3C

Warmest low was Point Pelee and Burlington Piers, ON at 22.6C

Despite the recent dry spell, Quebec is having the least active fire season in 10 years so far.

While Quebec is seeing significant smoke, it's had very few of its own fires this year. This past July saw the lowest number of fires recorded over the past 10 years, according to the Société de protection des forêts contre le feu, or SOPFEU.

A 'quiet' season for Quebec
As of Tuesday, there are less than five small active wildfires in the province, according to SOPFEU, including in the Mauricie, the Montérégie and the Outaouais. Two others are also being observed in the Côte-Nord.

20C and sunny in Moncton at 10 AM, going up to 32C this afternoon (humidex 39).

A heat warning has been issued, and all crown lands in the province have been closed because of the risk of forest fires. There is one out of control fire in the Miramichi region.

The temperatures for the next three days are 34C, 34C and 33C,

There is a 60% chance of showers on Thursday. Aside from this, the forecast remains dry.

We hit 34C yesterday (our 28th day over 30C this year). Heading up to 34C again today and tomorrow (humidex 42C) with more sunshine.

We cool down to 26/27C for Wed/Thurs before returning to the 30s for Friday into the weekend.

Sunny, some haze/smoke (but a lot less than yesterday) and 27 (humidex 32, dew point 17) at just after 12:30pm. Highs near 30 again today.

Kingston fire estimated to be at 5000 hectares, having grown over 1000 hectares overnight and over 2000 hectares in 24 hours. Humidity and dew points are a bit higher today than forecast, that may help a little bit, but the heat and winds are certainly not helping.

They have upgraded the probability of the wave near the Cape Verde Islands becoming a tropical cyclone to 80% within the next seven days.

I don't like the trajectory of this storm one bit............

Firefighters from Moncton, Dieppe and Riverview are battling a wildfire north of the Irishtown Nature Park near Moncton.

The rural New Brunswick community of Maple Hills, which includes Irishtown, has posted on its Facebook page that it is asking some residents to "take immediate steps to prepare for a possible evacuation."

As of 8 p.m. local time, no evacuation order had been given, but the community was urging people to have personal belongings and pets ready to go.

This would be less than 20 km form my house.

A bit of a rare event today and the next couple days where both eastern Canada and BC are having a major heat event. BC will cool down on Wednesday or Thursday though.

BC has been having a near perfect summer, temperatures averaging just slightly on the above side of normal, lots of sunshine, but perfectly timed intervals of brief cool relief and moisture, which has made a very tame forest fire season and near completely smoke free skies.

The park mentioned appears closer than that to downtown Moncton, about 6 km?

It's an odd year, with fires in places you wouldn't expect, due to localized drought. The NW Avalon (Kingston) fire in NL is likely to cause extensive destruction, with continuing hot dry and windy weather.
