There will be several more brands that have lost the battle but still pretending to be top brands, Le chateau should have been gone years ago. It was around in the late 70s i think, Didn't smart set rietmans also go down the drain.

Le Chateau has improved a lot in the past year.

(in terms of fashion)

smart set is shutting down,
le chateau is hanging in there but not doing too well, they used to be much better but lately the quality and fashionability has been lacking

Le Chateau doubles loss in third quarter to $11.1 million on lower sales

Ugh.
A giant windowless white wall facing the street?

Is this revenge for tearing down Sears downtown?

Yup - but that's actually facing the internal street (not Marine Drive)

Home Depot shoppers will cringe seeing that white wall

The Pandora store on Alberni will apparently be closing at the beginning of January. A new Pandora store will be opened in the expanded Pacific Centre.

Just drove past the Simons, the white pre-cast wall is being installed and is actually quite an interesting mosaic pattern and should look quite good. Home Depot shoppers won't see it as there are no windows facing it.

Also, that portion of the wall is heading back to more parking and the back end of the mall, so the management want to discourage people from walking that way and instead walk north to the new phase 2 of the village. The design makes sense IMO.

Then they screwed up with the shoppers. There's a disconnect between the old and new village part.

I fully agree, I do not understand the design or placement of that shoppers at all.

It will be interesting to see if Park Royal actually finishes that facade. The parkade (scheduled to be complete Spring 2012, actually "completed" Summer 2014), which they claim to be "fully open" has never opened P5, 5 elevators are still out of service (never entered service) and lucabond panelling is missing all over the place. The right-in/right-out intersection that was supposed to be built at Main Street and Taylor Way never happened either.

Here's a map - the large blank wall is on the north-south street facing Home Depot.
(I thought it was on the internal east-west street) - so it does make sense that it is "back of house")

I don't understand the design of the new extension at all. The existing walk about outside mall is wonderful. There are people sitting outside in the summer in the little water park and the outside cafe yogurt place and coffee shop. It feels alive, there is a reason the street is curved. The new strip feels like a dead straight strip mall.

The new part does have a sterile feel to it. It's built with nice materials but it's just so flat (like a strip mall). And the continuous awning really takes away from any uniqueness the individual stores do have. I think it's fine but I'm personally disappointed because I was expecting a continuation of the "village" feel which this just does not have in my opinion

Hopefully they can take the McDonald's out and use that space to try and tie the two areas together

OK Thanks for that I was there last month with some people from out of town who insisted on going and I couldn't figure out WTH had been going on.

David Yurman will be opening a store in the Carlyle development on Alberni. They have leased the space beside DeBeers. Chanel will also be opening a new Flagship store by the end of 2015 on alberni. Moncler is apparently close or has signed a lease for a store on Alberni also. Lots of other high end brands looking for space.
