The 7-day forecast from EC is unlike anything I've ever seen before. Straight wall-to-wall sun, and temperatures between 25 and 28. I believe this is what the mainlanders call "summer". Unfortunately it's come at the worst possible time.

Almost identical conditions to Moncton. Again, wall to wall sunshine for the extended seven day forecast.

Farmers are getting worried.

Vintage Bay de Verde posted a few scenes from the town. They're in the path of the smoke.

Sticky day. Good day to head to the beach. These were taken fairly early so it was still filling up.

There was a sandcastle festival last weekend. Some of builds are still standing.

Summer, not including that garbage May, has really made up for the snowy last half of winter and crappy spring. Hot and dry. But that also means fire ban. Took down all these trees yet can’t use then yet for the fire. Anyway, we’ll leave that as a privacy wall because more tree are going to be cut.

The haze from the fires messed shit up. Couldn’t see the ski hills or anything across the bay. Sunday was better but still not that clear sky you want at the beach.

Douches gonna douche. These were superficially buried.

And I can no longer be the Banksy of the rock painting world. A lady discovered the lady bug put in the water by my daughter and correctly surmised it came from us. She was so happy and wanted to take a pic and said it’s those little things that make life so interesting and brings people together. Guilty as charged. More rock paintings from other people have turned up on the beach. The trend is now firmly underway. I might have to open up a gallery and charge 200 bucks for my art. My "art" that relies extensively on stencils.

An update to the Love Park green scum situation. Two weeks ago I observed them scraping it off. One week ago it was clean but empty. This week it's back to the way it should be. Let's see what they've learned and can keep it from turning green again.

Without chemicals and constant cleaning, I don't see how they can prevent the growth of algae.

The American model 10-day for St. John's is crazy:

7th: Sunny, 24 (humidex 25)
8th: Sunny, 27 (humidex 28)
9th: Sunny, 29 (humidex 31)
10th: Sun and cloud, 27 (humidex 30, and a chance for 0.5 mm rain)
11th: Sun and cloud, 27 (humidex 29)
12th: Sunny, 30 (humidex 36)
13th: Sunny, 28 (humidex 33)
14th: Sun and cloud, 28 (humidex 32)
15th: Sunny, 28 (humidex 35)
16th: RAIN, 20 (humidex 25), but only 5 mm of rain.

The increase in humidity early next week will be the only thing to help control the wildfires. However at the same time, winds will increase Saturday and be fairly gusty all next week, which will not help things at all.

The window to get the Holyrood fire extinguished is slowly closing.

29C with a humidex of 31 and sunny. Finally it looked like completely clear without haze at all. Very dry for early August. Dewpoint was 12C this afternoon.

Low of 15C this morning.

The warmspot was Muskoka, ON at 31.1C.

Warmest low was Burlington Piers, ON at 21.8C.

16C and sunny in Moncton at 9 AM, going up to 29C this afternoon.

The drought continues. No rain in the long range forecast. Extended period or temperatures in the low 30s this weekend and early next week.

Grass getting dry and crinkly at the Hal Betts Sportplex (ball diamond complex) on the Moncton riverfront.

My sore throat turned out to be a cold, worst possible time, although the high humidity helps keep the respiratory tract from drying out like in the winter.

Yesterday and the day before were beauties, each 27 with a low of 21 and humidex of 33. That's probably my favourite temperature.

The forecast for the next two weeks has been bumped up a few degrees, getting into oppressive territory with humidex near 40 every day and 30+ even at night.

The fires are crazy - or fire, really, as the one in suburban St. John's has remained at 22 hectares for days.

The Kingston fire is still growing.

At today's noon update, the Premier announced Ochre Pit Cove and Salmon Cove would be evacuated. And between that announcement and the news release that followed, the Town of Victoria was added to the evacuation alert area - which is where evacuees up until now have been sheltered.

Picked up a cold as well, seems to be a summer bug going around. Very annoying in the middle of summer.

This summer keeps chugging along above average in Southern Ontario. 14 day for Toronto has all high above 27, ranging between 27-35. We've had a few cooler spells, but usually lasting no more than 2-3 days.

Rain is really needed. Everything is dry, really dry. That plus the smoke that seems to never really gone is putting a damper on what otherwise should be a very nice summer.

Kingston keeps doubling in size between every daily update. There really is no good news and the weather conditions only get worse from here.

The other large fire out in central is thankfully far away from any community. While cabins could be lost, that is much easier to stomach than communities burning down. It's starting to get to an appreciable size.

New fire today in Red Harbour on the Burin Peninsula. Have not heard any updates since regarding whether crews were able to get it under control or not. It was burning awfully close to the town though.

-------

Currently some mix of cloud and smoke, I'm not exactly sure which it is, and 23 at 6:30PM. Heat warnings are now in effect for between tomorrow and mid-next week. High of 25 at my place this afternoon, with an expected high tomorrow of anywhere between 25 and 28 depending on which way the breeze decides to blow. More consistent (and unfortunately stronger) southwesterly winds expected to roll in saturday through next week.

EDIT: Red Harbour fire has been extinguished. Fast work, amazing.
