I mean look at this insane piece of crap! This rendering also shows that you're wrong to call this park a greenspace... or even a park really. This thing is going to be basically an extension of the sidewalk with three giant glowing tombstones growing out of it. At this point this park is nearly a bigger tragedy than the actual building collapse.
That is pretty bad!

After the Steve Saymon's Philly 9/11 Memorial Proposal was shot down by the Art Commission

I joked that he should design the 'construction accidents memorial' and it would probably look like this

Not sure if that is better or not now.

... On the serious side: They really should just restructure, fund, and provide oversight for L&I as a true memorial. And then just put up a simple historic plaque describing the event with the victims names in a nice pocket park there.

Good riddance to the slum lord and the smut shop. It's interesting to hear that this is the last such establishment in Center City. I hadn't reflected on it, but I suppose that the internet has killed this particular sort of "business." I'm certain that it's not due to a measurable increase in public virtue.

This shows that it's now actually urgent to increase capacity lest the city be considered an expensive place to visit. Due to a convention in April, people could not find hotel rooms in Philadelphia for my wedding under $400 cause there was a convention at the time. Everything from Airbnb to regular B&Bs were also filled since they got the overflow and some had to stay in South Jersey. This should not happen just cause one big convention is in town, especially for a city of Philadelphia's size.

Fortunately 8 or more hotels are opening in the following years. Roost and the Logan (which won't really add more rooms) are opening this year and AKA at FMC probably early next year. Most of them are high end but others like the Aloft and the one at Drexel are probably more affordable, so there will be some diversity in options.

Sadly there are no news about the Hudson or the kimpton in Logan circle. SLS looks like it is going to take a while.

Sure it happens. But the shortage of rooms is not nearly as acute in cities that have a lot of hotels and are used to large events and consistent high tourism. I've traveled a lot, I've booked hotels last minute, and I've never had a problem like we had that week. Not even in Rome when many times a year they have Catholic pilgrimages.

Speaking of Catholic pilgrimages ....

our skyline is going to keep getting better and better. You can see FMC cranes peaking in between Liberty and Bell, also you can see the work on the waterfront beside the Ben Franklin. I really just wanted to post this photo because it does a good job of showing Philly as a whole and ho much the interstate fucks everything up ha. Cap the Vine please!!

any updates on Divine Lorraine or 205 race? Has anyone been in the vicinity of either lately? Seems like another false start for the DL- not that its surprising at this stage.

Reading the history it makes me wonder how we're going to continue it's legacy.

Just did a Priceline search for Philadelphia that weekend. Returns three results.

Inn of the Dove - Bensalem $279/night
Lincoln Motel - Trevose $191/night
Days Inn - Runnemeade $476/night

I'm sad for the person that has to pay $476/night to stay at the Runnemeade Days Inn. That being said, I don't think 100 miles is accurate. That would include Harrisburg, Baltimore, and NYC. The Priceline search for those cities returns:

NYC - 444 hotels
Baltimore - 146 hotels
Harrisburg - 102 hotels

So yes, hotels in and around Philly are mostly booked, but 100 miles is a bit hyperbolic.

Pretty sure that's just for Independence Hall as a World Heritage Site, which it's been for many years ("REGISTERED SECTOR--Independence Hall"):

Teelucksingh said Philadelphia's status as the sole American city on the list could last for many years since it's the only U.S. city qualified since Independence Hall is already a World Heritage Site.
http://www.bizjournals.com/philadelphia/...-world-heritage-city-united-nations.html

This new distinction, however, would be for the entire city as a World Heritage City.
