Colorado losing a major headquarters as Catholic Health Initiatives merges with Dignity

Headquarters of new entity will be in Chicago

Catholic Health Initiatives, which jointly operates Colorado’s largest hospital group, Centura Health, has signed a merger agreement with Dignity Health that will create a new nonprofit Catholic health group based in Chicago.

CHI, based in Arapahoe County near the Interstate 25 and E-470 interchange, employs about 720 people in the metro area, not counting Centura Health workers, and is one of the largest headquarters in Colorado based on revenue. Dignity Health is headquartered in San Francisco.

The two systems will bring together hospitals and clinics across a 28-state region. Chicago was chosen as the base for handling the integration because of its central geographic location and flight access, a CHI spokesman said Thursday.

....

Dignity health probably has 500 people at its HQ in San Fran.

Its HQ building China Basin Landing has only two major tenants

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/China_Basin_Landing

China Basin Landing, now referred to as simply China Basin, is an office complex on the border of the South of Market (SoMa) and Mission Bay areas of San Francisco, California. The complex has 917,000 square feet (85,200 m2) of space.

It is the headquarters of Lyft and Dignity Health.

^ That's actually quite impressive. But to answer your question, no, I don't think large medical groups will consolidate in Chicago for the above reason. It already isn't happening, but for this one large entity.

Getting back to the above merger, I'm hoping they locate downtown instead of in some suburb

Yes it was a fun list to do and by no means complete.

But there is another merger on the horizon with Advocate(IL)/Aurora(WI).

I would like to add ACPE to that list. I worked there back in the 90's doing data entry for the national pharmaceutical education programs. Used to be called the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education back then. They've fancied the name up since.

Small footprint but there was a constant stream of state pharmaceutical board members, universities and pharmaceutical companies coming through the office to ensure they were in compliance with ACPE standards.

Little place but they swing a lot of weight in pharmacists' maintaining their training standards.

No Advocate is the larger and more prestigious hospital system. I know lot of professionals that work at Advocate and The plan is to change the entire system from Aurora to the rebranded Advocate name.

This was told in personal emailers and what not.

Advocate will be driving the boat in this one. No the HQ will not be in Wisconsin for those that are concerned.

Your welcome in advance, bnk.

Ascension and Providence St. Joseph in talks to merge: report
Quote:
By: MODERN HEALTHCARE STAFF
Ascension Health and Providence St. Joseph Health are in talks to merge and create the nation's largest hospital chain, the Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday.

A merger between St. Louis-based Ascension and Providence out of Renton, Washington would give the combined not-for-profit entity 191 hospitals in 27 states and annual revenue of $44.8 billion. The deal would put the merged company ahead of HCA, which has 177 hospitals and reported $41.5 billion in 2016, according to Modern Healthcare data.

Ascension, the nation's largest Catholic system, declined to comment on the report. Providence, the nation's #2 Catholic hospital chain, did not respond to a request for comment.

Ascension has a sizable footprint in the Chicago area. The system shares a joint venture called Amita Health with Adventist Midwest Health, a nine-hospital network stretching from the northwest to the southwest suburbs. Ascension has plans to bulk up even more here. The system plans to acquire Presence Health, a large Chicago-based Catholic health system.

Most of those on this list are Professional societies, which although they have political power, aren’t really huge job generators. As a matter of fact, the vast majority of their members live elsewhere in the country, probably including their presidents and board members.

The consolidation of all of these health care organizations (although inevitable) aren’t a good thing for those utilizing the health care system. All of the cost savings achieved will not be shared with patients. It will all go into the pockets of administrators and shareholders.

A for-profit college owner, formerly Devry University, is moving HQ downtown from Downers Grove. About 150 executives jobs:

Interesting they chose to leave 700 employees in Downers.

I would assume as they recruit younger talent in the city (thats the whole point for all these companies moving down here, right?) their downtown office will grow organically while the DG office dwindles due to attrition.

Either way, good news. Even if it is from a scummy, for profit school company.

Sears strikes another deal with Amazon

By Gina Acosta - 12/15/2017

Sears Holdings is looking to jump-start sales by selling DieHard-branded products on Amazon.com.
It marks the company's latest partnership with the online leader as it aims to reverse a longstanding sales slump.
"DieHard is America's most trusted and preferred automotive battery brand and the collaboration with Amazon makes it easier for millions to shop the brand," said Tom Park, President of Kenmore, Craftsman and DieHard brands at Sears Holdings. "As we have previously stated, we want to diversify the revenue streams of our iconic brands and launching on Amazon.com will significantly expand the distribution and availability of the DieHard brand in the U.S., building on the success of our recent Kenmore appliances launch on Amazon.com."
Sears already sells major Kenmore appliances through Amazon in select cities. Expansion to the rest of the country is reportedly in the works.

I turned down a job from them a while back. Might have taken it if it'd been downtown.
