It was more... we want the public to visit parliament hill but the public are also the same 'risks' we are worried about. I didn't mean it so much as the convoy but i guess could go that way. I was thinking more about the one misbehaving person in every 10 000 that visit parliament hill (fake numbers ...just to give the idea).

The link I provided goes into more detail with their risk assessments. I get it - we saw an interaction with MP Singh just this past week. Does it make sense to make the entire area a walking parliament district based on their risk assessment? The world is changing so maybe?

Sorry for the rambly reply.

I truly don't understand the appeal of the Wellington "pedestrian mall" concept, other than to maybe explain it as the latest form of Washington envy.

The land use on either side doesn't lend itself to pedestrianization. It's sun-drenched and gross up to five months a year; it's wind-swept, slushy and barren four another four.

Especially given what a dud the parallel pedestrian street is.

I'm just waiting for the usual gang to start agitating for Albert and Slater to be pedestrianized as well.

About that. Looks like after that Jagmeet incident, they started to secure the area around the West Block. So you are greeted with a bunch of cops and crowd control fences in the evening when MPs are going home. Sad.

Sparks street is used to show pedestrian streets can't work in Ottawa but each case is unique. Though agreed Wellington is probably worse for this than Sparks. It is certainly possible to turn this into a lively place free of cars but the chance of the city NCC or anyone doing any of that seem zero to none. Especially as it would require some kind of commerical prescence. A Ferris wheel would do well there but who is agreeing to that?

A Ferris wheel would be a big security risk. We would need airport level security to get on it, just in case some loony boards it with a gun and starts firing at upper floor windows.

It somehow works in London right across from Westminster Hall?

I'm fully behind the tram concept with the street closed to cars between Bank and Elgin, but until we start building the tram, I don't particularly think closing it to cars is all that important from a City Building point of view, but maybe it's important security wise.

In any case, we need far better bike lanes that actually connect to the Rideau and Mackenzie bike lanes.

Wellington bikeway project is still around but on hold until a tram funding announcement that they say is forthcoming.

There was an honest to God funding announcement when MMB was elected. Don't know what we're waiting for then.

Incident? Jesus.. some guy chirped him and now we get to enjoy more fences? I hope you are somehow wrong.

Take me back to the 90s when ole Johnny could bust out the Shawinigan Handshake.

I don't think it's the one chirp that precipitated this. There has been an accumulation of incidents, and there is constantly lurking in the back of people's minds recent incidents in other countries that have been significantly worse than "chirps".

Wellington Street future uncertain ahead of federal election. Here's what you need to know
Progress on talks to give control over the corridor in front of Parliament Hill to the federal government has been slow.
