So just so I understand it - this is the first of two towers, right? Do we have any info on the second tower? Because obviously one supertall isn't enough.

Also, it's interesting that speedboats will be a common sight on Lady Bird Lake (*cough* Town Lake *cough*) once this thing goes up.

The second tower would be Block 190 next to IHOP. The only info we have about it - which isn't much - has been already posted in this thread. But based on the square footage and use, my guess is that it's around 750'-800'. But every tower that hasn't broken ground including this new proposal is not a sure thing. I wouldn't be surprised if we go two years without a groundbreaking for big downtown tower. It's been close to year already.

That's some craziness right there. Does it remind anyone else of the Railyard proposal?

Yes, that’s the very same thing I thought.

I hope the Railyard proposal happens too.

Note that the HAIF post states the tower height as 1,474'. But that's the approximate above sea level height based on this drawing. But it should be around 1,000'. It needs to be 984' (300 meters) to be rated as a supertall.

This may end up being the tallest building in Texas. Look out Houston!

I changed the title to reflect the change to two towers from four and new names. The site plans for each tower were filed for AULCC in April. The former Waller Park Place site was referred to as 98 Red River in the filing and Block 190 was referred to as 99 Red River.

For what it's worth, the April AULCC filings for both 98 & 99 Red River have January 2022 as the start dates.

If Austin gets a supertall from this then I have no problems at all with this project slashing 2 towers from the original vision.

This is also one building where I’m not gonna put any emphasis on design as long as it’s not straight hideous because supertall status as symbolism is enough of a win for me. It helps that it’s design is okay though, which in this case it is. So not bad at all.

Imagine this view with the Travis and 90 Rainey towers immediately to the right.

Well, that's good news. I had trouble reading the numbers on the elevation. The top one is pretty easy to read - 1,409 feet. Of course, that's the above sea level height. The number at the bottom is more difficult, but I'm a nerd, so I got out my magnifying glass like Inspector Gadget to read it. It's still a little hard to read, but I think the number is 408 feet 3 inches. So, that gives us a height there of 1,000 feet 9 inches. BUT, the height on the elevation is only to the main roof and there is some height above that. I think the highest point of the crown/mechanical roof appears to be around 50 feet above the main roof. So I'm thinking the height is likely close to 1,050 feet.

Again...not to be nitpick here...but, HAIF listed the height at 1,474' MSL. Thus, this baby would be closer to 1,066' tall.

I was looking at the article that Towers.net published today, and they had a better larger version of the elevation I was looking at. That 408 foot 3 inch sea level elevation I was having trouble seeing is actually 608 feet 3 inches. That height isn't the ground level height, it's to a point on the podium roof. So, we'll likely have to wait to have an actual height until we can view the site plan and elevations.

https://austin.towers.net/[email protected]

That makes more sense to me anyway as I was thinking that 408 feet seemed a little low for the sea level elevation of the site. Most of the lowest sea level elevations around downtown near the river hover around 445 feet above sea level. I should have figured. The river (water surface level) itself is around 423 feet above sea level. So, going by that, I think the height will probably be around 1,025 feet or so give or take a few feet. Either way, we're still looking at a new tallest for Texas, and it'll be about 100 feet taller than Dallas' tallest. Crazy.
