I don't usually stick up for Liberals so please don't call me a Zed supporter, but in Mr. Zed's defence, Saint John has sat on the wrong side of the parliament for quite awhile. I can tell you it is pretty tough to get a lot of attention to your area when you're cozying up to the opposite party of the one in power.

Yeah I know, I was spying on their blueprints the other day through the window before they covered them with paper. I didn't say it was going to happen, just that I had heard that rumour. If the question were about what I thought was going to happen to the Paramount, I'd venture to guess it will stay vacant and rotting for at least another 6-8 years before anything happens to it.

Paul is a good guy, but there isn't much to be done when he's in opposition, and in Atlantic Canada as well. No one around here has gotten anything significant since the Conservatives took power (or before then for that matter). Paul did do a great job with his work toward Harbour Cleanup, and this mediation of the talks about merging Transportation departments sounds promising, but other than there hasn't been much done.

Actually The Maxx, (bar) in the 3 mile closed a couple weeks ago, due to lack ofpeople. Because a lot of people have been going to the new ozone bar on kings street.
Rumors have been circling that the owners of the 3mile are trying to buy the Old Paramount to put put a bar/club there. Which i think would be fantastic,
Already just in these past few months uptown @ night is much more vibrant with the boardwalk, the new Ozone bar, the new Uzone Internet cafe, thats open til 2am, then you have Club Blush (The strip club) Plus Studio 54, plus Melvins, and Tapps, and Elwoods, and so much more.
There is now something for anybody uptown in the evening regardless of Age, or whatever your into.
Saint John is transforming so rapidly, its amazing.
Good Things are happening here, thats for sure

But by the same token, Elwoods has had to reduce the number of beers it carries to reduce costs, and Tapps is shutting down the microbrewery and has been on shaky ground for a while now.

Saint John is still Saint John: fickle as hell.

True, depends on the place.
Where as Tapps and Elwoods may of had to do a few cutbacks,
Cougars, Studio 54, and Ozone, are thriving. I was @ 54 last night, and they had to stop letting people in there were so many, and over 50 people were still outside.
I guess it all depends on what the person wants....

I am glad to see more people moving uptown at night, I never liked the idea of most people heading out east for bars. Most thriving uptowns never sleep because of bar action. It may increase the amount of drunks uptown but the idea is to get people up here and spend money. What also needs to happen is that we need more fast food or restaurants that are open later uptown as well. We have 2 subways and Spago's but besides that there is not alot else open late at night. With more people out later you would think it would be prime for chain's like wendy's, burger king, and another Mcdonalds open later. Not saying there our best options but there options none the less. The new UNB building looks nice next to the Paramount and if it was fixed it would make King Square alot nicer. It kind of kills that our main uptown park has a coldsore like that on one side.

Also Welcome everyone to the forum.

I agree with you about needing more restaurant options for later @ night... but uptown is set up so weird lol, Where could we even put a BK, or MCd's free standing restaurant? I cant really thing of anywhere... My only thought could be next to the new tims on King St, a Street front BK could probably work there....

Has anyone seen the building they are fixing at the corner of Princess and charlotte. Its going to be a travel agency the building was all brick now they added green metal siding on the back's of the building I think it looks terrible but i think its great for that corner more business and A little nicer area.

Also what happening to the building next to the Laudry mat on Princess it is supposed to be taken over by the SAint John theatre company??. That building would also take away from the kind of run down buildings around it.

I Agree with everyone else SAint JOhn has grown in these past 3 years than I saw the entire 16 years I visited once a year.

I could see a BK on King and I would Like to see something on Canterbury or somehting on UNion. Union to me is where the most work is needed. I think getting rid of a couple of those bars like the Icebery and royal canadian. And I also think Rookies has shut down. SO somehting could be converted there it is a two story building.

It'll be nice to see that ugly box replaced with something else. Hopefully the new building add something good to the skyline...

Fantastic news - yet another developmental cornerstone to catalyse further development in the city; i can't help but wonder, though, what kind of traffic problems are going to be created in that area . . . . . . . parking is a desperate issue in the uptown, and a third large scale lot (preferably underground) is most certainly needed.

I'm assuming that the new police/justice complex, when completed, will be joined to the "Inside Connection"?

Cheers.

Has anyone heard much about 87 Canterbury? It looks like it will be pretty nice.

I've copied the listing of the property (for lease) from the MLS service:

Heritage space for lease: uptown saint john
A total of 19400 sqft leaseable area on 3 floors (approx. 6500sqft per floor). Currently open concept. Heritage building being redeveloped. In addition to 2nd and 3rd floor 65oo sqft available on ground floor – a rare find in uptown saint john today. Excellent for office space. Retail gallery, restaurant, coffee shop, etc. Owner’s vision for building is a trendy mixed-use development. Strategic location next to the john law building and just around the corner from on of the highest concentrations of successful restaurants/bars in uptown saint john. (ie. Sebastians, Lemon Grass, O’learys and Happinez). 2nd floor will be accessible by wide, attractive staircase. Potential for an elevator as building develops. Building features brick exterior façade. Interior exposed brick and beams. Lots of windows providing ample natural light. Flexible floor plan lease any size space. Landlord to provide base building improvements.
