Nonetheless, development of that area has been wrought with problems for years and for various reasons. It would be nice to see something world class get developed there though. Far better than continuing to neglect it.

You're wrong, this is private property. This is what natives do whenever there's a big project proposed. They bitch and complain, saying the land is traditional berry picking land; or, they used to camp on the land, till they either get a payday, get paid to go away, or get told to pound sand. This is what they did at Tobiano, this is what they tried to do at Sun Peaks, and this is what they are trying to do at Tranquille. No one cares; other than our weak government, that some senior citizen thinks they set up camp here before Canada was even created. It infuriates me this government even entertains these dumb stories. People need to realize the more this gets entertained, the more justified they become, and then private property in this province means nothing. Good luck getting investors on projects in this region.
This project could do so much for the housing stock, in a city that has around 4% available land to develop. Instead, the self-serving bands care more about an easy payday, by fleecing a developer, than to have any assemblance of community.
And I find it funny you say, Kamloops lake used to be called Shuswap lake. You think maybe that's because the Kamloops band conquered the Shuswap band and took over their land? haha. Weird how when natives take land from other natives it's a done deal. But when Europeans do that to natives, then it needs to be litigated over forever.
