That's a bit much but to each their own I guess, I like the top part and the ugly part isn't high up enough to really be seen in a city like NYC.

It's still a very tall building and very unique.

As far as people on site, if it's a weekend, that's normal. But I haven't been by the site in a while, and I don't know where Extell stands as far as getting a crane on site. The stop work orders have been removed. Extell hasn't announced a hotel operator. We'll see.
Hm, seems this isn't as far along in the development process as I had thought.

Knowing Extell I still have some faith it rises but fingers crossed.

Your fingers may get stuck that way. This tower is most certainly going up.

While the top has slowly grown on me the base is so dull and banal.

It sort of mirrors the top a little. But we won’t see that until it gets built.

At the very least, contractors say that supply chains have improved, even though they remain slower and messier than before the pandemic.

…Contractors are now more likely to buy crucial materials from domestic sources and to use a greater variety of suppliers to hedge against another possible disruption, according to AECOM Tishman’s John Kovacs and Eric Reid.

The company is at work on a rare type of project in New York City: a new hotel.

Plans for Extell Development’s hospitality offering on West 48th Street, in the Diamond District, predated a special permit requirement passed by the City Council in late 2021.

I find that question odd, coming from someone who insists that every new building going up in the city should have an observation deck.

Odd there are typos in that form, unfortunate about the lack of activity though.

I hope this one makes it off the ground.

I would be 100% unbothered if this one died quietly and with dignity. I cannot think of one other significant NY skyscraper that seems to go out of its way to appear so bizarre. I have no idea what this developer is thinking.

I guess can understand the hate towards this thing (it's different) but I've partially grown to like it.

I hope it gets built.

Latest filing gives 60 floors, no change in height though as the additional 7 floors were probably added to the hotel.

Interesting that the structure is steel and not steel encased in concrete. Usually hotels - and high rise attractions (think Toronto's CN Tower, Seattle's Space Needle, Stratosphere in Las Vegas) are the latter.

Finally have the new zoning diagram. The changes are hardly perceptible, but there are now added floors. There hotel has 1,800+ rooms.

As it was:

_

As it is now: Hotel portion is slightly higher, but the overall height remains the same.

_

Upper floor Observation deck/restaurant
