I'm not passing judgment on these players, but absolutely the NHL should have their own rules. They are easy to bungle though, like the NFL going hard on people who do drugs but not those that beat their spouses.
It's really the bungling portion that is the issue. However, my issue with the NHL deciding to proceed this way is that it is imputing punishment on the basis of allegation. The matter has been tried in court for crying out loud. If a court case is not dispositive of a matter, then what is? Who actually gets to dole out punishment in society then? Nobody has the obligation to contract with any other person, however, interfering in a contractual relationship between two third parties on the basis of allegations that were dismissed in court seems a little imprudent.

Think of civil vs criminal court. This is more like the letter of the law vs ethics and morals. One is pretty subjective and an organization like the NHL or any corporation is free to take action above and beyond to protect their reputation.

See: Coldplay concert.

This is like saying that only a criminal court case can decide if a player faces code of conduct discipline. You don't need "beyond a reasonable doubt" to suspend or discipline someone at work. And the criminal case doesn't find innocence, just lack of guilt by a legal standard. These guys acted like shit, doesn't matter whether the evidence was there to make a criminal case out of it.

Toronto sports writers are going to Toronto sports write
That quote at the end says it all. Toronto sports writers all convinced 97 can't wait to be the guy to put Toronto over the top lol. As if he hasn't played in as many SCF final games in the last 2 years as Toronto has in 60. Not being an NHL player, I can only guess that hockey players want to win a Cup and don't really care where. Edmonton has certainly shown they are closer to that goal than Toronto is.

IF he's leaving Edmonton, I don't think Toronto is his top choice to go to.

Flames sign Wolf to a 7 year deal, didn't expect that since he has exactly 1 year of NHL experience lol. Dude looks to be a franchise goalie though, and Conny wanted to lock him up. Now we just need some players to play in front of him! lol

Rumour has it the 5 WJHC players who were acquitted this summer will be eligible to sign NHL contracts in October. Not surprised, in the eyes of the law they did nothing wrong and the NHL has no grounds to ban them any longer. Think they are going to bring nothing but bad press to whatever team signs them. I'd guess the Oilers as they have a history of signing shady people, but the Oil have no cap space lol.

They're using the plural, but the only example they have is one guy from the national paper.

One player has apparently already signed in Europe. Hart I think is the only one who might get a shot in the NHL again. The others I don't think were either in the league or were on the bubble type of players. I agree there really isn't a legal reason the league can block them, but they have to be able to earn their way back and I imagine most teams will be hard on them to crack a lineup.

In other news, listening to 32 Thoughts today, they reported Kirill Kaprisov turned down an 8 year $16m per year offer from the Wild. If he goes to free agency, it would take $18.25 million per year from a new team to match that total dollar value since they can only sign a 7 year term. Wonder if he is waiting to see what McDavid does?

Some of them have probably lost a step by missing time or playing KHL minutes, but I bet they would be able to get back into shap purely by being in their prime years. Dube was a flame for 6 years and his best season was 47 points, his peak was probably 60 points if he kept playing. I could see him getting picked up by a US team looking to add depth and getting back to that level. Curious how many boos these guys will get though.

TSN is now reporting they are suspended until Dec 1. Curious if that includes the AHL or any other affiliate league.

After that Friedman's latest interview, it feels like Connor is going to see how the early season goes, maybe waits for a key move/trade and then goes all in to WIN THIS season.

1. Oilers WIN a cup, he stays for 4-5 more to continue that.

2. Oilers DONT WIN, but close, he signs 2-3.

3. Oilers out top 8, he does not sign and goes to Toronto or Vegas.

It's crazy to me that Edmonton has done nothing about their biggest weakness, Skinner ain't the guy. McDavid can't be happy with some of the decisions they have made.

Having $20MM tied up with two mediocre defenceman also doesn’t help the oilers.

If I was an Oilers fan, I would be pretty nervous after that interview with McDavid....he was not exactly serving up warm and fuzzies....there was definitely no positive body language.

Maybe, maybe not.

I like him, but the Oilers for decades now have had exceptionally poor D and bad d-zone play. They hang goalies out and it shows.

He has also been 23-25yrs old for the key parts of this and that's part of his own growth, on the right path and should peak in the next 2-3 yrs.

He needs to work on his game, but other than Bob (and Picard), has been the goalie who has had the most overall 'success' in the last 2 yrs.

Is he a top 5? Maybe not, but it's as much about what's been in front of him as it is has been him and I am optimistic this could be a breakout year in terms of being more consistent.

We also have to be honest with the type of team we are (or should be) in that we should be running, gunning and winning games 6-4, not 2-1.

Oilers looked like puck moving kings at times tonight.
