I hadn't seen any of this and was downtown on Sunday morning and was shocked to see it, I really hadn't paid attention here and hadn't been in that part of downtown in a long tuime, well I drove down Davie a couple times but it was night time and this place is easily missed in the night.
1068-1090 Burnaby St and 1318 Thurlow St rezoning went to Public Hearing back in November of 2024. I assume they received their BP not too long ago since they can now demolish.
Likely they're just demolishing this house and keeping the other buildings tenanted for a bit longer?

Some of the other salvage/abatement permits haven't been issued yet for 1380 Thurlow and 1068 Burnaby.
The new construction permit Excavation/Shoring was issued in September.
Thanks!
The pattern is turning out as rendered.
Smart to have the white panels high up where they'll be noticeable from a distance
and where you can't tell if they are dirty.
Honestly, not a huge fan of this.
The black and white panels don't work coherently in person and just looks a bit dirty.
I edited the photos to my liking so it looks less "distasteful".
I don't know why designers are allergic to colour. You would think right off Davie Street in the west end there would be some more inspiration with regards to colour selection for the exterior panels. I personally love the Douglas Coupland mural at 1770 Davie Street and wish this was in a similar vain.
Yeah I think it would have been cool if we used red, brick-inspired textured panels in the bottom like the original design, diffusing into white (like a gradient) as you move up the tower.
And then use curtain-wall quality blue glass for each floor. Would have looked really nice in the current form.

This is one completed mural, I was hoping Peppery_Goodness would post more of the progress, all four sides are coloured in.
