I know nothing about demolition of structures like this, but wouldn’t it be far more efficient to cut the concrete slabs into pieces that could be craned down/chucked down the chute they have set up? I’m probably underestimating how difficult it is to cut through reinforced concrete floors, but it just seems so tedious and rudimentary (and a bit dangerous) to be literally chipping away at it with miniex jackhammers.

Drove by last Friday and it was down to maybe 2 or 3 floors. Surprised we haven't seen a DevApp for its replacement considering the old structure is nearly gone, while their Metcalfe proposal is up before they even started demolishing the current structure.

I think there was a post on Reddit maybe a week ago showing it down to the last couple floors. Feels like they moved pretty well if you go back to mid summer posts on here. That one pic with the extended scissor lift at the top still gives me butterflies in my stomach though.

Just went to get a fresh pic! They are finishing remnants of walls on the 3rd floor and will soon begin on the 3rd floor, uh, floor.... AKA the 2nd floor ceiling?

Design Brief: https://webcast.ottawa.ca/plan/All_I...12-25-0010.PDF

Website: https://www.groupemach.com/propriete..._o-connor.html

Unit Count: 391

Retail Space: 663 m3

Description: The building has a footprint of 1494m2 and is 25 storeys in height including 391residential units, commercial premises on the ground floor and 102 underground parking spaces.

Among the largest and most dominant towers in the city, is nestled 110 O Connor with its 25 floors on one of the busiest arteries in the city. The concepts articulated in three floating masses and retains the precious brutalist language of the sector with a reinterpretation of historic styles present on its neighboring buildings. The contemporary design of the tower on top preserves the integrity of the architecture without dominating the 6-storey podium. The transparent tower rises above and is made out of curtain wall so as to be read in second plane. The concept is driven by a desire to harmonize with the brutalist facades in the immediate context. The podium is distinguish by its size and by its grid like facade with a tectonic play in fiber cement.

They call it a 25 storey building, but when you look at the floor plans page 40-51 (https://webcast.ottawa.ca/plan/All_I...12-25-0010.PDF), you'll not the "25th" floor plan followed by the "Roof Plan". The roof plan includes units and amenity space.
