Isn't this where the new Whole Foods is supposed to go (moving from 10th and South)? I didn't see reference to Whole Foods in the brochure TK2001 linked, although maybe I missed it... (Hi, by the way! Longtime lurker, finally registered!)

Stunning and love the height! A little sad that this proposal is only for 1 tower instead of the original, which featured two. Although, the design and height are far superior. I hope it happens and they secure financing before things go south.

And seconding TK's question - Summers, is this the 500 footer you've been keeping from us?! Not to be greedy, but I hope there's another 500 footer you're keeping a secret.

This is the 500 footer I alluded to

on Page 1 of this thread, you said that you thought that the 2 shorter tower approach worked better than a single tall tower. what do you think now?

There will be a second phase to this development where the old charter school was and the large surface lots and other properties stretching along South Street.

I was under the impression the Whole Foods was going in this portion of the property, but maybe I’m wrong?

Fantastic design, even better that it incorporates adaptive-reuse of a really cool mid-century modern building. A home run as far as I'm concerned.

I really hope this sees the light of day as designed.

Fantastic! Love the round glass too!

So is Whole Foods being incorporated into this?

I also wonder if a Virgin Hotel is in the works elsewhere since the company mentioned Philadelphia in their expansion plans?

A few more renderings:

I'm not looking at a gift horse in the the mouth but it's rather wide, the profile from Broad won't be the appearance that it generally shows....and it looks very similar to Art Haus but less graceful.

I am so glad they are going with a tall building instead of the two shorter ones (as I mentioned on the first page of this thread.)
Does this mean SOM is out of this project, or are they designing Phase 2?

In addition to the gentleman who sent me the link, he said, "Paul Steinke of Preservation Alliance tells me: “A representative of the Goldenberg Group called me last week to tell me this proposal was about to be submitted to PHC. He said the phillyyimby article relied on outdated information and images, which is why what we’re now seeing looks so different. (I have not looked at it yet).”"

Love the design, but Goldenburg doesn't strike confidence. I'll believe it when I see steel.

The PDF that TK posted has the height above sea level as 573'. It's 31' above sea level at the base, putting actual height at 542'.

I'm taking the second tower out of the thread title, as it now seems like a separate development.

You beat me to it. Apparently, whoever wrote that PHC proposal doesn't know how to read elevations, since the proposal actually says that the building will be 573' tall.

I am wondering if there is a sort of unofficial height limit on Broad. Both this and the Arthaus are 542' exactly.

Philly may have broken the City Hall height limit elsewhere, but goddammit if we'll have anyone taller than William Penn on Broad Street.

Wow! Hopefully Virgin is looking elsewhere in the area, but this is a total stunner. Build it!!! Massive design improvement and super memorable. Will have a major impact seen from any angle but love to see some more height stretching south in particular.

Beautiful building! And it'll block Symphony House when looking north. Seeing thsi building + Arthaus + City Hall in one view will be "chef's kiss"!
