The new version seems more energy efficient (smaller windows) and easier to maintain. If these are rental apartments I can see why they went this way

I see what you mean. What looked like stone changed to large porcelain tiles underground and a mix large grey panels on the exterior and flat beige panels on the interior of above ground stations. The concourse levels of the underground stations have also changed quite a bit.

In terms of layout and space, the underground platforms haven't changed much, other than Rideau's open cavern (though that was shown on a station plan that was released at the time).

The first one would have been an exciting building (I even modelled it as an asset for Cities:Skylines I liked it so much).

Did you upload that asset to Steam? If so, what's the link?

(Sorry for being off topic!!)

I haven't yet. I'm still trying to figure out texturing. But I'll let you know when I do.

I was excited about it so I thought I'd share it with you guys.

I've lately gotten into try to make assets for the game Cities: Skylines, and I made one for the first version of this building, photo below. It's not available yet on the workshop, but when it is I'll share it and here in case any of you play the game and want to use it as an asset. It's not 100% the original proposal, but it's as close as I could make it while fitting the scale of the game. I've been working on 3 other buildings in Ottawa (The Julian, 196 Bronson v2, 12 Clarence), and have 8 other non-Ottawa buildings. Depending on how things turn out I may do more models for the game, including a few more from Ottawa.

Thank you! I agree that the original design was much better than the current one being built. Hopefully in this way that design can live on.

You can see this, and the other projects going up in Westboro and Wellington Village from the top floor of my office now...kinda cool seeing all of these assorted projects slowly dotting the horizon from different vantage points...

Taken on July 30. I count 21 floors (ground floor hidden behind the fence). One more floor + mechanical unit until this one is topped off.

Taken October 5. Building is topped off and exterior brick work is slowly rising on the north side.

I picked up the brand new DJI Mavic Mini micro drone on release day yesterday and I've been having a blast with it. It is light enough that it's classified as a toy in Canada so I am able to fly it legally and safely in more places than my other drone. I got a few shots today including this one:

So cool, Harley! Back in my day we had model rockets that would go up with 110 film cameras.

It looks like it turned out a bit taller than I originally thought...the Metropole isn't on it's own anymore.

Harley, I'm digging these latest drone shots! Especially the height, near eye level with the top habitable floors. It really gives a great perspective of the views, and urban context of the building.

Great aerial photo, thanks for posting!

This building has gone up much faster than I realized! I can't believe it's already topped out.

Hopefully we can get some more height in the area and have a nice cluster of 20-30-40 storey buildings around that LRT stop.
