You're right - it wasn't that long ago that Wilson and Cannon were quiet tree-lined streets. Shame...

These look lovely. The row for sale, however is my most hated row of houses in Hamilton. Just awful looking. Not to mention the front doors are less than a few feet from the road.

I challenge you to a "shitty row" off.

My submission: https://goo.gl/maps/nj3Yuq8T8632

Front doors are literally inches from transport trucks speeding by 24/7.

I think the only reason those houses look so bad close to the street has more to do with the street being ridiculously overbuilt. If it was more complete, the houses would give the street a much more urban feel.

What row do you refer to David?

Is it just me or is it strange to anyone else that there are 6 of the 7 townhouses for sale, and there listed as 3 duplexes, and not townhomes.

They're cut up into rental units inside; hence all the satellite dishes

took a drive by. the fronts looks great.

the sides are just concrete blocks and the back is just siding. i guess they anticipate the sides to not be very visible, but the vinyl siding at the back is really a let down

I don't see how that can be a "let down" when the cost of these units would be much higher if fully bricked. Plus I'm pretty sure you can only see the back for a split second if you're driving north along Cathcart or Ferguson

its a letdown to me personally because it doesn't look great and I was looking to buy a unit. of course the cost would go up if another material was used like brick. something some would have been willing to pay for

if i lived in there i would be seeing the siding much more than a split second. i'm speaking from the view of owning the unit, not driving by it for a split second. of course you won't see the back side of the alleyway if you're just driving by

Great Pic!
I like how downtown Boston has blocks and blocks of downtown side-streets in-filled with similar style towns - newer made to look older.
Its nice that Beasley and others are selling so quickly here - maybe we'll see many more.

They turned out nice but its another project that suffers from Hamilton's ridiculous setback law. They'd have been so much nicer if they were built closer to the sidewalk. Walkups kinda lose a bit of their style when they're built so far back.

I think they applied for a variance for the Beasley Park Towns (definitely not with the corktowns though). They're setback roughly the same distance as the surrounding houses. The front porch entrances come out to about the same distance from the road as the bay windows of the nearby residents.

^Right, it looks like they weren't allowed to situate the steps on the road allowance. This differs from the neighbouring houses, and thousands of other houses in the Lower City.

Gotta leave room for those inevitable road widenings, ya know.

If they were right at the sidewalk the sidewalk would feel even thinner. A bit of setback is good for the pedestrians.
