Nice find. That area really needs some greenery + development. It looks barren and its the face of Vancouver in that it's among the landscapes that visitors first see when they enter the city.

I have high hopes for this project.

Since the utility poles are included in the fenced off area, does this mean they'll be burying the poles facing the street? If they don't this is going to look hideous, well built or not.

they probably will bury them. i doubt the City of Richmond would allow the water front area to have utility poles all over it.

This project is really flying under the radar given its size.

I personally don't care how the building turns out. Just bury the damn electricity poles while your at it.

these are photos of the ITC (international trade centre), which is not the same as the 'vancouver international plaza', as the title of this thread implies. ITC is not the 'monster' development that you guys are talking about!

I did a bit of digging and this is the most recent update I could find on the Vancouver International Plaza development. From Dec 19, 2016

The province and the city of Richmond told The Globe the proposal still has a long way to go before it can even get off the ground. An old jet-fuel pipeline running under the island has to be dug up, which will not happen for two years. The development also needs clearance from the Musqueam First Nation, which has a claim on nearby Crown land.

As Mr. Chen settles in as a director of the new bank, court records show he is embroiled in a costly dispute with Mr. Xu over the B.C. deal. And Mr. Xu alleges in court documents that he is owed millions of dollars by Mr. Chen and others. Mr. Chen did not respond to several attempts by The Globe to reach him for comment.

Mr. Xu’s company is suing Mr. Chen’s companies, alleging they failed to get development approvals fast enough. He is demanding his money back. Court records show Mr. Xu is trying to invoke a clause in the partnership deal that said he could charge 40 per cent annual interest on his investment if Mr. Chen and others involved did not secure government approvals within two years of the 2012 application.

Thanks for pointing that out. After doing some digging it looks as though the ITC borders the VIP but is in fact a separate project. It is confusing though as the renderings of the ITC also depict the full build out of the VIP.
