It actually takes much less energy to cool things than to heat them up, and it takes less energy to cool things when the chamber in which they're being cooled has less space that needs cooling. You can also set your freezer to higher temperatures, to reduce the amount of cooling required.

Accusing people of being mentally challenged because they disagree with you is childish. If it continues this discussion will be closed.

Does the city have a policy about recycling wood?

Wood is in the category of "bulk waste item" along with furniture, you can call 1 week prior to your garbage day to arrange for pickup until Sept 7th.

Here is a good link:

If you were actually following the discussion you would have noticed that I called them mentally challenged because of their lack of comprehension rather them disagreeing with me. I don't care if they disagree with me. But if I am going to be accused of saying something, they should at least get the gist of what I was saying right. Unfortunately, not comprehending the English language seems to be the norm here.

Email the Spec where you see a lot of garbage bags.

I've already emailed them about the Chedoke rail trail, really sad to see. Clearly people are dumping their garbage bags from the top of the Escarpment and it liters all over the trail.

I think we should at least offer people the option to buy stickers if they have more than one bag. I believe it's done in other cities.

Say $2 per sticker. Go to a corner store buy the sticker, slap it on your second garbage bag and the City will pick up your extra garbage.

People dump everywhere and have been doing so for many years before the one-bag restriction.

I grew up on St Andrew's Dr and played in 'The Ravine' across the street all the time. HUGE dumping ground.
Today, under the Macnab bridge over the CN tracks, also a big dumping ground.

Let's not blame one-bag limitations on dumping as it's been a problem for decades (in every city in every country).

I'm 110% in favour of a one bag bi-weekly w/ the possibility of purchasing stickers for ONE additional bag bi-weekly.
If people used their Green & Blue Bins properly, they wouldn't have to worry about their garbage 'stinking' as 99% of organic waste would be in the Green bin.

What's so difficult about paying attention while you throw stuff out?

There never used to be garbage bags along the Chedoke trail before, I've seen people dump their pile of leaves before though. When all the snow melted away it was sad.

Hmm.. too bad the City squashed Lawn Mulching, too.. Over concerns of high levels of methane? Lame. That would have solved 'leaf dumping' (though useless against Leafs dumping lol)

But seriously.. all one has to do is pay attention to waste diversion and you WILL meet diversion targets! It's really simple, Family or Not.

The more they restrict the worse it's going to get. Most taxpayers in this city are already fed up with taxes going up and services being reduced. They are not going to stand for more limitations on what they can or cannot put at the curbside on garbage day.

It's a very hot topic amongst the people I know and the concensus is enough is enough. They are not willing to pay more for less and the idea of having to pay extra to put out more or even paying to deliver it to the transfer station will not fly. The politicians know this, thats why they won't go anywhere near the issue.

I don't know what the big deal is with the one bag limit. My household has three people and two cats and we usually don't even fill one bag of garbage each week. We also fill one recycling box and use our green bin intermittently.

We're far too busy to put any conscious effort into reducing our garbage or going out of our way to recycle. If we added one or two more kids we'd probably fill the whole garbage bag and occasionally have more than one. If people are making more garbage than that, then they should have to pay.
