Speaking of recycling, what's going to happen to the old Civic Arena? I wonder if there are any plans to re-use all that metal.

The concrete seating "bowl" is being put in place. I would guess it will be little more than a month until it is mostly finished. I have been lazy in taking pictures but if anybody else wants to take some looking at the inside of the arena, do it soon for the time frame is dwindling.
That is a massive structure allready. It will be significantly bigger than the Igloo although it will only have like 2000 more seats. We are going from dome to box and I'm not so thrilled about that, but hey we still got a new one.

Not sure John. I've seen post-gazette articles that have said it was going to be half dismantled and used as a park; also ive heard it's going to be torn down. So i'm not sure what is really going to happen.

I think they should take one of the roof sections (I picture them to be like big stainless steel or aluminum curved slices), find a small plot of ground near the new area and place it standing up on end as sculpture. That would recycle at least one section, provide public art and commemorate the Lower Hill's urban renewal history.

man, that steel is really going up. It looks like they topped it off already. I haven't been down there since the last time I did my Golden Triangle Photo thread.

It's fun watching this arena rise, it looks like it will be a great venue and obviously a big upgrade from Mellon Arena. It will be interesting to see what happens with the old arena, perhaps some new development.

Great angle from that aerial. You can really get a feel for what this building is going to look like.

What a great looking Arena !

Way to go Pittsburgh, and I have to say my hometown idol Mario Lemieux has done a tremendous job to get it done!

Go Pens Go, we are with you on it !

Wow! Great aerial shot PA Pride. It really clarifies just how the new arena is positioned within that neighborhood.
